Adjustments coming to rankings

Every year since I started this, back in 1993, I have had to deal with the amazing growth of the game. Back in those days, there were only 80-90 public schools and maybe 20 private schools.

I ranked the private schools, but never published them, because my friend Jon Walk did that. I even ran his rankings in my original newsletters, despite having a file of my own. Not publishing the private school rankings also allowed me the chance to run them in a separate additional algorithm so they could catch up faster.

In recent years I have had to make slight adjustments to the algorithm due to the size of the system. This year is no different. I have made the adjustments and will implement them next week. The main reason for this is to allow the system to grow to its natural size quicker. The teams start out so bunched up.

If you would like to see this week's alternate rankings, please head to: http://sixmanfootball.com/alt_rankings.php?w=3

The change in the change column is the difference between the alternate ranking and the posted ranking from this week (not the change from week-to-week).

I have also posted alternate spreads for this week: http://sixmanfootball.com/alt_spreads.php. A few games do have different winners and a few spreads are different, but all in all, most stay close to the same.

Thank you for all of the work you do to have the most accurate rankings and comparisons. It is greatly appreciated. We give you a hard time, but what we are really saying (when we raz you) is that we wish we had your ability to make it all work. When you reformulate - it is understandable that some level of re-ranking occurs. The bottom line is that it should be more accurate now than ever before. If there are bugs to work out -I am sure we will help you find them and you will get them fixed. Some might think that you do these revisions just to give us something to talk about.

Keep up the great work and thanks for providing this fun website platform to discuss sixman football. I have to continually remind myself that this is a great sport, played by young men that are human, make mistakes, suffer injuries and even make some poor decisions that cause them to be ineligible at times. But more importantly, I have to remind myself that they are boys and it is our job as parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers, fans, siblings, and team mates to help them develop and polish life-skills and experiences that will help those boys become fine young men.
