Zephyr on the SEC agenda 11/10

Probably related to the comment made earlier in another message. "Yea that’s why one has a sibling still going to RS to play football but the sister transfers to follow the coach. It was girls following the coach."

Very well could be. I do remember in the hearing with Richland last month that Zephyr was brought up, but UIL kind of dismissed it as that wasn’t what that particular meeting was about.

This may be more related to the girls side of things, but with a small school where coaches are used for multiple roles, it could implicate the boys side. Not even sure what it’s about, but evidently the DEC thought it was worth sending up the ladder.

It is an unfortunate chain of events. The lady on the hot seat next week was with RS previously. She was / is a terrific coach. Her students really liked her. So much so, that some followed her to Zephyr, at least that is how it appears from the outside looking in.

I don’t know all of the facts so I will refrain from passing any judgment on the individuals themselves. Generally speaking, however, it appears that RS and Zephyr are in a contest to see how much they can tattle on each other. My hope is that everyone will go back to minding their own business and playing ball.

I'm amazed in this day and age that anyone would move because they liked a coach. What is to be gained? The loss could be one's reputation as a coach or school. Play by the rules!

The facts of this case were laid out in another thread on here. The seeds were voter complacency. Then nit-wit and incompetent administration. Then great coaches forced to migrate. Then upset 😢 parents and students. Then the snowball effects from papf s, DEC members hard feelings, revenge, SEC involvement, rumors, hearsay, ……Taylor Sheridan might get some ideas here!

Just by going off what I’ve read here and what I heard in the hearing against the coach from RS. Seems to me there is hard feelings. I get that. I guess the question is, was it recruiting or just following the coach? Which is not unheard of. If the families actually moved from RS district then is there really an issue? Other than hurt feelings? In large cities moving from one district to another is not uncommon. Sometimes it’s to get away from a coach not to follow one. All that being said it’s gonna be interesting to see what is brought in as evidence of anything that violates rules.

Exactly, are we to expect parents to keep their children in what might be a toxic environment, much less continue to support said environment with their money? Especially if it’s a teacher or administrator causing the problem, just look at whats happening with Celina or recently with Coleman, or any school district of any size lately.
Public schools are being scrutinized more so than any other time, and parents are just done putting up with it.

From the looks of the stats, the State Committee is pretty much a rubber stamp of the District Committee decisions. Going from a little over half of the time to 90% of the time over the last ten years, do we even need a State Committee?

I watched it from start to finish. I’m glad that they were so lenient on Coach Chandler because she is and always has been a class act. It looked like they had the Zephyr Superintendent dead to rights on several serious rules violations and just let it all slide. The DEC is supposed to re-check all of the papf’s and report back to the SEC but that seems to be a moot point at this moment in time.
I think all of the SEC is made up from the retired Superintendent’s club.

Couldn’t watch it this time so I had to go search for what the results were, I it was mentioned that the committee was going to look at the transfers themselves, what does that mean exactly and what could they do about it? Especially if they live in the district and are in junior high?

The transfers are those living in the surrounding ISDs. Bwd, Early, SS, RS,etc. 40-50 per year according to the supt. I believe he said 8 former RS girls came in one group and were playing summer tournaments in Zephyr jerseys while still enrolled at RS. There were several verbal reprimands from the chairman over different violations.

TAPPS may still have this rule that prohibits a coach who moves from TAPPS School A to TAPPS School B to coach any players from TAPPS School A other than their own children that transfer to TAPPS School B for a period of one year. Of course, with multiple private schools in urban areas and that private schools do not have designated attendance zones like most public schools, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

TAPPS may also still have rules that limit in-season varsity transfers. For example, the fall deadline is sometime early in September. I think the winter deadline is early December and there's also a spring deadline and a bunch of hoops that the transferred student/parents must meet, including the withdrawl from the old school BEFORE the transfer can be considered.

Perhaps UIL needs to consider similar rules.

But I think UIL dealt with a case in San Antonio for baseball where a number of student-athletes (from Mexico) "moved" to an apartment in a school district so they could play for a coach. I think a couple of the mommas also moved with the kids but it was pretty certain that it was for athletics.
