Top 5 best coaches

Ed Poehls is one of the best at game planning and getting EVERYTHING out of his kids. Fierce competitor, great coach but a better man. Lane Jackson played for Ed if I'm not mistaken.

There are so many great coaches. I think Burkhart, Ritchie and Hays are great. Two names that haven't been mentioned is Brett Tyler and Keith from Happy. There are so many more to choose from that have had a great impact on and off the field.

Top 5 is really hard to do. But I will take a swing at it.
1. Burkhart
2. Borden Co. HC
3. Vance Jones
4. Crumpton
5. Happy HC

HM: Union Hill HC. Strawn HC. Jonesboro HC. Coach Hayes. Garden City HC.

I don't think I would put Crumpton above some of the HM coaches and coach Crawford should be there to.

I'm getting in on this late and didnt make it past the 5th post...

Ok Tebow...if you think that the 2009 DII State game was the worst state game you are crazy.. That game was amazing, great defensive battle between two of the greatest coaches. Borden co 28 Highland 14 final...far better than the second game that day imo. I honestly dont like the 100+ point games, but that's just me. I get that defense is passe now but come on man!

The topic title does not specify current or since the game began.
I'd start with Epler. He started it. Not in Tejas, you know the friendly state.
But if your interested in choices for the top 5 since the games been played in Texas why don't ya ask the Coaches themselves who of their peers they respect and admire the most?

I'm about to keel over and die of laughter after clicking that last link lol.

Was your basis of best based on wins only?
Thatz fun and
John Wooden was more proud
of his players post collegiate accomplishments.

1.jerry burkhart
2 .terry Crawford
3 . Coach Jones
4. bc coach
5. Coach cooper
This is just my list and what I think . So please don't judge lol . I would also throw coach Reid in it when he was 6man .

Doing the most with less is a HUGE plus in my book.
Some of the private school coaches take academic kids and make tough ballplayers out of them.
More importantly, they often do it while holding down full time jobs elsewhere.
Barker at Live Oak in Waco is a case in point but I'm sure there are others.
Three state championships in the last 6 years (maybe another this year if the stars line up right).
I think he's the only head coach they have ever had.
All these 6 man coaches need a hand though.
Small school coaches have to share the players with other sports, UIL, band, one act play (and their parents who expect them to feed the cows before school).
