Fudgeeeee I can not get the link to work.

Is Mr. Hall still with us on this rock? If so he should be in his later 70s correct? Wonder what his take on Morris breaking his record would be. My guess is he wouldnt care if he plays 6-man football or not.

The young man is a stud and should be recognized for his accomplishments!! Glad I got to see him break two records this year.

yes he is still on the rock with us. And he did a radio show in Florida with the Henry kid, and congratulated him prior to the accomplishment, but did show som e regretfulness that his record was getting beat.

W_W - easier to move the ball in 6-man - Why do you think the exception is in 6-man - 1st and 15 not 1st and 10. But if is so much easier to move the ball in 6-man why in 75 years of playing no one else has managed to reach these numbers? If it is so easy there should have been a good number, say 25-30 players that have exceeded the 10,000 yard mark with at least 5-8 hitting the 11,000 and probably 1 or 2 getting 12,000+. But then that hasn't happened. In the past 12 years I have seen 6-10 running backs that could have had 10,000+ yards but did not reach those numbers so is it was really "that easy" to do. I think not.

Quotes from Weebles_Wobbles

On a side note. Hate me if you want but as an ex 11 man player and coach as well as a 6 man coach I can tell you with absolute certainty it is easier to move the ball in 6 man as opposed to 11. That said the shorter field, shorter games argument is 100 % correct.

Agreed. Football is football. No asterisk or anything else denoting it as 6 man. Lance Morris will be the HS all time leading rusher. In good with that.

One of my players said today he thought it was "ridiculous" to compare 6 man to 11. That's good enough for me.

A 6 man record book would be great.

“Never said it was easy.” “Said the two should not be compared.” “A 6 man record book would be
great.”

All of the above are from your post!

Which of the quotes do you really mean here.

Now I am not sure but sounds like you did say “it was easier” to move the ball in 6-man.
Sounds like you said “Football is Football” “No asterisk needed”
Then you state that we need a 6-man record book.

So which is it – football is football – 6-man is easier to move the ball – your player said it was ridiculous to compare the two? I believe the numbers speak for themselves. Lance Morris has rushed for more yards than any player in the History of High School Football in the state of Texas and should be honored for that accomplishment. He should be in “‘THE” Texas High School record book. No question no asterisk. Make a note that he played 6-man but also make notes on ALL the records as to the level of play for each record holder.

As for as comparing, most no that is every football game I have attended, or watched on TV (and that is from 3rd grade tackle to Pro ball) you still have to block and tackle. Without these two things you are not going to win very many games. So no it is not “ridiculous” to compare 6-man to 11-man. Still requires two basic functions, block your guy and tackle their guy. Team that does that the best is going to win most of the games.

Sorry about the long post here.

Seems to me like it all comes out the same in the wash. Easier to move the ball, but with less field and less time to do it. I agree, if it were easier to gain that many yards, why haven't more players done it?

I suppose I should clarify. I do think lance Morris should have the Texas, and perhaps the all time rushing records if that plays out in his favor. I believe this because there are no other official record books. If a 6 man only record book existed then I would believe that the two should be separated.

I do believe it is easier to move the ball in 6 man. The scores also denote this. Never seen a 100+ to 100+ 11 man game. I also don't think the differences in the two games average out. Rarely, if ever do you see an 11 man player average 10+ yards per carry. I've only been around 6 man a few years and I can name several who accomplished this. To me this means the 2 games are not equal.

You're premise on blocking and tackling is ridiculous! If we played 2 on 2 ball someone blocks the others tackle but scores would skyrocket even more. 11 man football you often see tackles made by several players. 6 man often plays have to be made in space. I will take my chances offensively 1 on 1 as opposed to 1 on several.

Sorry for what seemed like a political flip flop. I am not taking anything away from the young man and again I have never said this was easy. Just easier. A huge accomplishment and one that should be celebrated. The good lord knows I never would have been able to accomplish this feat.

Yeah, but what if that 2 on 2 were on a 30 yard field with 3 minute quarters and a 25 point mercy rule, would they be able to amass 11,000 yards in 45 games?

Ok COACH, just exactly how is my premise on blocking and tackling so ridiculous! Just exactly what do you teach your players to do? Do not tackle do not block. My first day of practice in Jr. High we started out learning to block, next big lesson was tackling. That was a long time ago (45+ years) but we knew that if we didn’t get our block then the running back/Q back was getting tackled and we were not going to score any points. We also knew that if we didn’t tackle the other guy with the ball he was going to score. That concept has not and never will change in football. You don’t block then you are in trouble, and for sure if you don’t tackle the other team will score.

I never suggested 2 on 2 or 1 on 1. We did a lot of 2 on 1 in practice one blocking one tackling and one with the ball. Your right in 11-man you see a lot of gang tackling and in 6-man plays are made in space. So what is more difficult, making a play 1 on 1 in space, or 3-5 guys tackling 1? Just asking.

Fellas, I am new to Sixman and don't know all the running backs from the past. Have enjoyed reading about those different backs, but anytime a young man amasses what Mr. Morris has, it is dang amazing. I congratulate him, his blockers and coaches. That just tells me that he had exceptional talent and his coaches put him in a scheme that showcased it. 11k+ yards in four years is amazing. And that's all I got to say.

I would estimate (just an estimate) that a little over 50% of games played over the last four years were decided by the 45 point rule and ended early. Great accomplishment for Lance and the Ira Bulldogs, Great accomplishment for Sixman Football!!

Way to go Lance and the Ira Bulldog Team!! We are very proud of each and every young man on the team and teams past. Keep the yards going!

2009 - 2012 Ira has played either 48 or 49 games. I could not find a score for one game in 2009. But using 49 games there have been either 28 or 29 games decided by 45 points (57%). Of those 9 were at half based on lteh score. Any score over 50 points is a half time game. Between 45 and 50 ended early, just not sure how early. See my post earlier with some "what if" stats. And as always stats never lie but you can sure make up a good story with stats. As an example I was in a race many years ago. My good friend finished next to last while I finished 2nd. But he got the best prize, now how exactly did that happen.

Thanks OneDay I was not sure about 2009 since there were 2 open dates on the "Scores".
ryry - Yes 2 in the race but the headlines read "Oldergoat finishes 2nd, Friend Next to Last". Looks great for me not so good for my friend but is a true statement of the facts.
