Today History will be Re-Written

Sure but they are both football and UIL sponsored sports so Morris' record should be listed right there with Ken Hall's

11,233, Lance Morris, Ira HS, 2009-12 (6man)
11,232, Ken Hall, Sugarland HS, 1950-53 (11man)

That's how I think it should look in the record books

Never really thought about it this way, or I guess try to quantify the differences in 6 vs 11. But kind of in conjunction with onedays field figures:

In 6man with the 3200 yd field divided by 6 players each is responsible for 400 yds to defend or exploit. Spreading the 6 across the 40 yd width is a 6.6 yd lane to defend or maneuver in.

In 11, its a 455 yd area per player and 4.5 yd lane. Less to defend or exploit per player. Less to maneuver in = harder to gain yards???

Not sure what to infer from this except each sixman player is responsible for a larger area, or, a larger area to exploit. Which kind of explains the wide openness and importance of speed. The very things I love about the game.

That's the best way to explain it I'd say and the best way to see it would have been at the Throckmorton v Windthorst game this year...it was easy to see that in each half.

Lance Morris finished tonight's game with 386 yards rushing. I had him needing 15 yards to eclipse Ken Hall's 59 year old record of 11232. Was told by Ira folk he needed 27 yards. Either way he became the Texas all-time leading rusher tonight.

Derrick Henry from 11 man high school in Florida also broke the record tonight. I believe he leads Lance by about 12 yards after tonight. Uncertain.

Either way, both young men should be congratulated.

If one does not exist presently - we need a six-man record book. We get no notice in the 11-man world.
I'm working on a project that, if I get it going, could be used as a central location for all sixman stats. I believe it will make records easier to verify and could be used as a record book.

Will Lance be recognized by anyone besides the people at Ira and the people on this board for his accomplishment? Didn't know if anyone else in the country saw this as a big deal or just thinks we should give him a pat on the butt and say good job.
Actually,
Coaches school and the All-star games
out in Lubbock
would be the perfect place to recognize
all fantastic accomplishments!!
Don't they have a banuet out there or something?
Would be a venue to invite the sport media to.

Ok. Stat keeping is an art and a big THANK YOU to all stat keepers in the entire universe especially in the Six-Man ranks. I can't say enough for them. It is an important job and probably a thankless one overall.

I have carried on the LANCE MORRIS WATCH this season and I know I have bugged several of you to death. Sorry.

I was contacted earlier this season by Ira folks asking me what the All Time Six-Man career rushing mark was. With the help of Granger Huntress and Leman Saunders we established that mark as 10468 yards. Leading up to the game with Paducah on October 5th of this season, Coach Goodwin told me that Lance had a career total of 10224 yards. Right or wrong, I accept that as the gospel truth.

From that point on, Lance has accomplished the following.

252 yards against Paducah
190 yards against Fort Davis
171 yards against Hermleigh
147 yards against Highland
235 yards against Rotan
386 yards against Crowell
---------------------------------
1381 yards + 10224 yards = 11605 Career Yards

Certainly beats 11232 yards by Ken Hall. If all numbers are correct for both players, Lance trails a young man from Florida, Derrick Henry, by seven yards after games played last night. Mr. Henry has gained national attention as breaking the 59 year old record (national record). He is an incredible player as was the great Ken Hall. Lance Morris deserves attention as well. Please pass the word along to all you come in contact with. Yes, it is Six-Man against Eleven-Man. I understand all the arguments. 11600 plus yards should be commended and appreciated and discussed at any level.

Just a little curious fact.

He has a total of 11,605 career yards according to the numbers Mr. Hardin just gave us.

There are 1760 yards in a mile.

11,605/1,760 = 6.59375 miles.

Now think about this for just a second. 6.6 miles of running while holding a football and people try to hurt you? WOW!!! I remember back in HS Coach Campbell would come to me and say that he had signed me up for the two mile at a track meet as there was only 2 others running it. I would groan and go to run it and there would be 20 guys there. I had a hard time running those two miles and I was not dressed in pads, with a helmet on, carrying a football while people tried to dismember me.

LOL

I agree that 6-Man needs to have its own set of records and if the big schools don't like it I don't care, someday 6-Man football will be the national pastime for the USA, no, for the PLANET EARTH!!!!!!!!!!

Granger, the Florida kid is counting his 8th grade season, which Florida counts but the National High School Federation does not.

If someone want's to dismiss Morrss accomplishment as "sixman" how could they in their right mind legitamtelly include an extra year of non HS JR HI ball. If ya did this with Morriss how many yards would he have?

Just for fun - Stats - The Florida player has played in 45 games based on the article in the paper or a total of 2,160 minutes of game time (48 minutes x 45 games). Morris has played in 49 games or a total of 1,960 minutes of game time (40 minutes x 49 games). Looking back there have been at least 9 games that ended at half time so that is a total of 180 minutes not played. Then there were 19 other games that ended early (some may have be at half time not sure). Using and average of end of 3rd quarter that is another 190 minutes not played. Just for kicks take an extra 10 minutes off because I did not find a score for one game. So Morris has on had a maximun of 1,500 minutes of total game time. Florida player 11,600 yrds in 2,160 minutes = average of 5.37 yards per minute of game time. Morris 11,600 yrds in 1,500 minutes = average of 7.73 yards per minute. As for as records go, it should be shown as the record in Texas High School football. no need for notations about 6-man. R. Marris didn't need one in Baseball (61 Hr's) and L Morris doesn't need one in football.
