This is why is why i hate divisions

Training equipment, technology, dieting and supplements, etc. have all came a long way since the 70’s and early 80’s. I have no idea but would speculate that very few track and field records set during that time exist today. Some sure but not many at any level. Kids are stronger, faster, the tools available are just far superior to that era. With that said I kinda doubt teams from that era would be mopping anything. Just my opinion and acknowledge you may be correct and there will probably be people backing both sides of this. Not trying to start another pissing contest but just a different perspective.

Might as well change this thread to the "Back in my day" thread
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think each division in college has just one overall champion.
You are incorrect actually. Division 1 football in college has the FBS level and FCS level. But I've never heard anyone argue that South Dakota State didn't deserve their national championship last year just because they didn't play Michigan.

Kids back in the day worked out side all summer they were in great shape. Did not keep records like they do today. If you did see them play from back then you really can’t appreciate how strong and quick they were.

Sounds like “2” different divisions! FBS for one and FCS for the other?

Hey genius, I think the point is that they're actually from the same division. They're both NCAA DI. So by your logic they should be playing against each other for the real national championship. But there's a reason they're split up. You know, kinda like there's a reason 1A schools are split up in high school.

So there needs to be some clarification regarding FBS and FCS schools. Can a FBS school play a FCS school? Yes. The term D1 has been basically changed from the past. Texas State for example, they played in the semi-finals in 2005/2006. They were FCS. They had a playoff system in place just like D2.

FBS were schools that were in the bowl system, aka the BCS bowl games (think UT 2005/2006 championship vs USC.

So they are separated. However, I will add, they have given D1 status to a lot of schools that used to be FCS. Texas State, UTSA, App St, Coastal Carolina, etc.

So yes there were 2 champions. One for FBS and one for FCS. FCS used to be D1AA. Again they have been doing the playoff system for a long time now. This will be the first year for a real playoff in D1 FBS, since there is a playoff bracket now.

Long story short, there is a difference between FBS and FCS even though you can say FCS is D1. Call it power 5 or whatever you want. So yes there was one true champion for FBS, FCS, D2, D3, etc. You can agree to disagree but that's the truth.

The truth is that FCS is still Division 1 football. Just like 1A Division 2 is still 1A football. At the end of last season, Gordon and Benjamin were both State Champions. You don’t diminish one for the other because both squads worked tirelessly the whole season. Just like you don’t say South Dakota State isn’t a real national champion because Michigan won the FBS.

Why are there multiple D1 divisions in college? Because of resources, enrollments, donors, etc. So why is having the same thing for the lowest level of high school football (by enrollment standards) something people say should be held to a different standard, even when the rest of football across the state is doing the exact same thing?

NCAA is semi-pro now where kids get paid now. Talks about making one Division superleague (SEC/Big10).. NFL has one champion. They're completely different entities compared to TX 1A football where there's not even 104 kids in high school... and "back in the day" everyone played, didn't miss practice, Now kids lose their mind if they don't have their cell phone or social media. Times have changed and seeing kids unable to even throw a football correctly... saddening. More nuclear families "back in the day" too. Maybe that's the problem.
