The big C - a nightmare in the making.

So, after today leaves two weeks to go? Kinda like headin into the 4th quarter the coach says
suck it up. Grind it out. Lets hold on? Or the Sarge says we got em on the run now, dont' let up. Keep on pluggin Pete.

Is this one of those treatments that includes medical marijuana?
May help with the nausea?
Not that I would know or anything
cuz I was never young once.

Well if this was Califoniy or I think they may do that in Colorado. But here you got to know somebody that will climb the wall or swim the river. Or a risk takin' farmer, wait that's a contradictory statement ain't it ? Then if your the one caught your still a criminal, charley or not. Odd, I read a while back about the (good Repulican at that) police chief of Houston sayin he thought it ought to be ok.
Pete might already know somthing about this. I thought from some of his other post's earlier on he might have Served in Vietnam ("joy of being shot at and missed"). If so he might have observed some of them draftee army boy's using their guns for peace pipes.

Nope. Still have my draft card. Never called or would have gone. A friend talked about going to Canada if need be but I wasn't that intelligent (he turned out to be a lawyer).
Would of probably got my head or something else blowed off over there, like many others.

I think with medical marijuana you don't smoke the stuff. I had a friend in Colorado who also had a nasty spat with throat cancer (an army nurse by way of profession) and the chemo treatments hit her a lot worse than Fajita in terms of the nausea. So she got her some of that finest-ever stuff but it comes in a paste like concoction that you use in your food and drinks which sorta takes the romance out of the whole thing plus the prescription didn't include any of those hippie beads or headbands so there was that downside to it. She really needed it because unlike Fajita she was skinny as a rail going into treatments and had no leeway for weight loss (see I always knew it was a survival technique to have a little excess poundage). Anyhoo she's doing fine these days, ended up in San Antonio where she just retired.

Like Lucy said, let me "splain" a little here. Didn't really mean to dis the Army here, Daddy was a Sarge in it. Cousin was a chopper navigator in nam (ever had the bottom of a cigarette packge shot out of it - in your pocket and not known about it till you were back on the ground ?). Wife's uncle served 2 tours as a leatherneck like Pete going on missions into NV and Laos that didn't happen (I think they call them black opp's now). He still won't talk much about them, hidin by day runnin at night, though I've never pried hard.
But the peace pipe part comes from watchin the 6 oclock news in black & white. First time I ever saw somebody smokin rope they were interviewing 5-6 soliers in the jungle who had modified a rifle barrel with a bowl on one end and were passing it around sucking off the Wrong end. Daddy, what are they doing ? Um, ah, nothin.
Years later I've thought, I know they're under al lot of stress but I wouldn't want to be in that state of mind if there's even a chance somebody was going to be shooting at me.

Pete nobody spoke up about in goob's thread when I asked and I got to thinkin maybe your a bit too worn out to mess with this but I somehow got the impression from your blog that tomorrow's the last day of chemo. If so, congratulatons. It is a great accomplishment though I imagie it might feel like a great releif. In your kinda terms, I think, you've been in country for nearly two months kickin charleys ass, it's about time for some r & r.
Recovery you posted about, then some peace and quiet and fishin for a week or two in Southern Colorado.
I wanted to thank you for postin about Platoro. You inspired me. After googlin it, the lodge and river I got to thinkin and I'm gonna make a trip happen! Gonna show the wife some real mountains, clear running rivers and other stuff. Should save the money but I think it was the Beatles said money can't buy me love. Reserved 3 motels for a total of 7 nights in Colorado yesterday. Mid-S central. CS-PP, GOG, 7 falls - R Gorge. Buena Vista - Leadville (I want to see the Mount of the Holy Cross - even from a distance). 4 nights S of Southfork a hundred yards or so from the Rio Grande, I'm gonna trout fish too.

Well don't forget, a lot of us are going to be up there the week of 22 July, most of us stay at the Platoro Lodge and cabins but a few camp on the river as well. You are more than welcome to drop in an share a cool one or just take a load off. And you're semi right about the chemo, original plan was next Monday to be last day but a nurse says she has me scheduled for one more - but I haven't got that confirmed yet.

Ola Pedro. Just gonna say I've still been reading your blog & thinkin about ya. Congrat's on todays pronouncement of 1 more chemo and 4 more radiation. Also on keeping your weight up and getting the bp back up. Glad to hear your doing better than some of your new compadres that are getting treatments. Between the gag & puke, tiredness/sleeping, fillmore and other stuff it's easy to see how you could be more down than you seem. I know your doing better at this point than one other I've known with the same type of charley.
Figure you've got lot's of pictures from past years but thought having some of these just a click away might be enjoyable.
