Strawn-Gustine

It is an outstanding record and nice achievement for him. It had to be done to get the record if you know they could have stopped them on defense and didn't. Plus, 22 of 44 is a result of forcing it. I said this to someone at the beginning of the season when I was looking at some of the records. Once someone specifically goes after a record by not 45ing a team they could and forcing that stat over and over, the record will get so high that no one will be able to break it without the same situation...therefore, there will never be record-breaking performances in meaningful games. That is a sad fact.

So is it better for Gustine to just struggle and play half a game and lose 56-6 at half...or is it better for their kids to line up and play for a full game? I think calling it a classless act is the completely wrong view on it...It looks to me like Strawn let their players play and gave Gustine the best chance at letting their players play as well. Just so happens a guy set a few records in the process.

If I was on the Gustine side this would be the biggest slap in the face most disrespectful thing someone could do. Strawn is basically sayng we can kick your ass and 45 you whenever we want, but you are so terrible we are gonna let you score so that we can break a record and still kick your ass.
No matter what the kids at Gustine did at any moment they could have been 45'd. I wasnt at the game, but I would be curious to see how fast Strawn "JV" allowed Gustine to score so they could get the ball back with thr least amount of time coming off the clock.
If the record comes through the natural flow of the game, not like this.
This is a complete joke from a great team and a great coach,

As a fan of six-man football I've made my way to quite a few six man games. I've never seen a kid like Harry. The coaching staff, his teammates, and the fans adore him. Never heard a bad word about him and never seen him lose his cool. From what I've heard he's a great kid that caught a tough break with a broken hand earlier this year. How can you not be happy for a kid like that?

Im surprised nobody mentioned what Nowak might have done to May or Gordon if he could have.
The tigers scored 66 after all so i dont think they feel bad about it.

Thanks for your post. From school to sports to mission work he is an outstanding young man. His parents, coaches and teachers should all be proud.

BTW, regarding comments about the defense, I still think starting the jv was to give them varsity experience they will need. Coach probably doesn't want me to say this but they will loose I think 5 starters to graduation plus 3 more that played a lot.

Well heck. For the sake of posterity, since I didn't know the importance of what I saw at the time...
Saying hi to Harry's family on the way to our seats I said we wanted to see these Seniors one more time.
His Granny said yeah tonight's kind of sad. Yes, but I forgot about that quickly.
What was going on? JV starting on defense. They score, we score, they score. We're favored to 45 them, possibly by half time. Harry's throwing every down on offense.
Wife got cold. Went to the truck for a heavier coat with 3 minutes left in the half. We lead 55-44 at the half. I went to the truck to warm up.
I love the Gustine field. Elevated parking (6-8-10'?) behind the North end zone.
While warming up somebody pulled out. I pulled in. Just to the left of the goal post, about 20' from it.
We got to look over Harry's shoulder several play's in the 3rd as he threw TD's then saw him scrambling and them coming at us in the 4th.
I knew nothing of records. On the way home I commented about what a great way for the Sr's to go out after having Harry's hand broke for May and Gordon. I was happy. Hope the team, coaches and his family were too.
