Strawn-Gustine

Six-man expert
I know this is a meaningless game to most but it was a kind of crazy very entertaining one too.
First, Strawn kicked off onside as usual but the ball bounced backward to their 10. Then the JV started on defense. Gustine scored. The Strawn varsity started on offense. Boom, 1 play 50? yards. Harry Nowak's hand looked healed. He missed a few early, had an interception and Gustine went up by 2 TD's plus.
But Strawn still didn't RUN a play until under 2 minutes in the game (jv, and they scored on the ground). Every offensive play until then was a direct snap to him, and a pass. I think he was sacked once early on.
To top this off Strawn ran the kickoff out of bounds immediately or took a knee when receivng it the whole game, usually starting from their 20 or less. Abraham Jaramillo must have caught 6-8 TD's, many for 50 yd's +. One for 79 in particular. Nowak had to have thrown for 500-600 yards. Quite a show.

Got to thinking. Minus last td, not sure if we made xp, 109-8 = 101. K'lani made about 1/2 xp's, I.E. = 7 points a TD. 101 divided by 7 = 14.57 TD's, all passing. What is the State Record for passing TD' in a game.
6man or 11? How about yards?

Official stats - Nowak 22-44-1 for 845 yards and 15 TDs

Receiving:
Abram Jaramillo caught 6 passes for 227 yards and 4 TDs
Tyler Bays 4-241 yards, 3 TDs
Grayson Brandenburg 4-162 yards 2TDs
Ross Alison 3-79 yards 2TDs
Jacob Trujillo 2-99 yards 2TDs

The 6-man records WERE 564 yards in a game by Brett Stegall, Three Way, 1985; and 11 TDs passes in a game by Dylan Straley, Lometa 2011

11-man records are: 725 yards passing by Mike Richardson, Marbel Falls 2012; 10 TD passes by Travis Quintanilla of Refugio in 2012

I have some special glue to put his arm back on. That's just crazy!!! and of course having great receivers makes a QB look good. (wink-wink)

While we are on records here, what is the SHORTEST punt return for a TD ??
RSprings ran one back about 4 yards last nite
That was one of the strangest plays I've seen in a while. I recall a punt getting caught in a strong wind and winding up behind the punter but that last night was really weird. ...........

Why do you think they did it like that..just passing all game long and the no kick off returns etc??
I really wondered what was going on when we were behind into the 2nd. Trying to give the JV some game time experience for next year I understood. Beyond that I thought Coach was just letting the Seniors play basically street ball in their last game after a frustrating couple of critical games that shortened their season. I think Strawn could have lined up in tight and run every play probably 45ing them by half time. I think they had a lot more fun the way it happened. Gustine actually scored a lot of points, led for a good while and didn't get 45'd. Coach could also have been showcasing Harry's talent. Harry I'm told has the potential and would like to get a basketball scholarship. This game showed his gifted ability as an athlete and what might have been in football.
Then again as a fan of the game himself maybe Coach Lee just wanted to see what Harry and the Boys could do if he let em just play pitch and catch.
Padding the stat's? As far as the season goes Harry didn't throw a pass for several weeks. When he was healthy they ran a lot and others passed the ball quite a bit too. As far as the game I don't know the intent of the game plan, maybe have a big game passing and some fun? As far as let's go break a couple of State Records tonight ??? If so it worked. It meant something to the players, coaches, Harry's family and the fans. For me it was an absolute blast to watch.

So is it better for Gustine to just struggle and play half a game and lose 56-6 at half...or is it better for their kids to line up and play for a full game? I think calling it a classless act is the completely wrong view on it...It looks to me like Strawn let their players play and gave Gustine the best chance at letting their players play as well. Just so happens a guy set a few records in the process.

So, a six man team breaks the 6 man record for passing yards by almost 300, the TD record by 4.
The 11 man record by 120 + yards and 5 TD's and six man fans want to discredit and discount it?

The list of Texas HS QB's who have not done this in high school in the NFL and College , under any circumstances is quite long, from Brees to Sammy Baugh.

I feel privileged to have seen it.
