Just looking through the D1 rankings and I have a question for those in the know. Just how long has it been since Strawn has been ranked #44? And how did that happen? No players? No coaching?

I don't know for sure but aren't the athletes built from the ranks of the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students while they are in PE? That may be the best time to do movement training, positive conditioning games, speed and agility/CNS training etc. The average PE teacher isn't trained in these programs and if you have a roll-out-the-ball type, then you'll eventually run out. If you have a yell-at-them, punishment conditioning type, then you could run out for other reasons too. Not sayin' that's the sit-rep in this case but I've seen it at xxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxx isd's.

Strawn graduated a boatload of seniors off of last years team. (I want say 14, but that is just a guess.) That doesn't leave any room at the varsity level except for underclassmen who are starters. They have two experienced players on this years team that started somewhere on last years team. On top of that, they did not play a full JV schedule last year. Getting varsity experience for as many underclassmen as possible this year is a must. To say that Strawn was over-ranked to begin the year is an understatement. However, they are running a passing game offense that can score quiet a lot on most teams. If they can shore up a weak defense, they are scoring enough points to make a run at a playoff spot.

I'm not in the know but... Their ranking is due to loosing to now # 1 Rockwall Heritage and now # 5 Rochelle along with their wins by 3 or 4 points over lesser ranked teams. The next 4 games could be a Baptism by fire facing Gorman, KC, May and Gordon. I have hopes for at least a upset in there somewhere.
Back in 2011 6-5 got them an 86th ranking in the combined DI, DII, Privates. No breakdown given that year.
Other than that that, Never? The 06 & 07 rankings page would not display for me, they were 5-6 (their only loosing year in the last dozen) and 6-5. After that you go back to 05 for a 33rd with an 8-3 record when there was only 1 division. Then you go back to the Huntress Report in 1996 for a 30th at 7-3-0. RS was 36th that year at 4-6-0.
Hopefully they continue to learn and grow in the next few weeks. If SR Ross Allison continues to put up numbers like he has he could be all state no matter what there record turns out to be.

I'm sure Strawn as well as many other schools would only be so lucky to have you work with their kids.
I know, right? Not. WTH? Everything I said I read from coaching websites and that's what they said makes for up/down years. Just an observation not a judgement.

Gus, I think Coach Crawford's comment was directed at Johnny, not you.

FiftyOne, How did you do on your STAAR reading test? I am the one who asked the questions to begin this topic. Gus is the one who gave an answer. Go back and re-read, then see if you can come up with the correct answer. (just kidding)
Actually, I have seen the way that the Greyhounds have just as many or more down years as up years. I was curious as to why? I thought maybe the enrollment fluctuated that much. Or the coach was preoccupied with something else.

Well, let me get my foot out of my mouth so I can eat this crow. For one thing I don't remember starr tests in the late 60's - early 70s. I was being too defensive and thought you were kickin the Dawgs while they are kind of down by mentioning their current raking. As far as being up and down they have had a lot more up than down the last dozen years, all with the same HC. One loosing season 5-6, they made the playoff's that year but lost in the 1st round. Went to State 3X, won 2X. A lot of teams out there would love to have their record over that period. As Blue Bird mentioned, they are very young with the heavy graduation and a thin Jr class from last year which means virtually no varsity experience. However I believe the are still (very) well coached or they would be 0-4, possibly all 45's by the half.
Crawford, I somehow got the impression a long while back you were Coach Crawford of Abbott. Your posts are nearly always concise and spot on. I can now see how your post was directed at Gus.
Now it's time for some football.
