Spread triple option

And see, that's why I'm trying to run it deep... Give those guys just enough time to develope the play... And have hot routes to keep an aggressive player honest...

And I do believe that this will probably a lot more effective on the TAPPS levels than UIL D1.. Which is why I'm bouncing it off you guys.. I want to fine tune it formation and potential player position wise

Ballside defensive end after reading straight spread or option tackles your QB hard. Backside DE tackles fullback whether they have the ball or not. Leaves your third option with the ball with a cornerback in open field to make the tackle. Bring it on.

I had heard that Blum had some inovative short pass options out of a Slot spread formation. The formation with people in motion is inovative, but after watching them live against May's good defense, I'm thinking most of them are precalled plays rather than QB options.

These are the two formations that I have worked out for my teams!

-------------------------------------------------------
.................................C.G.TE
...........................FB

Ok. This calls for 3 CB playing Man D.

.......................................PM

WR.................................C.....................................WR

CB.................................CB....................................CB

The majority of the time I give our guys freedom within the set to make plays based off of what the defense gives us. You are correct that against May more of them were pre-called plays. Our QB was rattled, mostly impart by May's defense, but also the conditions threw off timing just enough to make him uncomfortable. It forced us to call the game a little different.

And that's exactly why I'm running this out of a semi normal looking spread... If the defense gives you a look that you don't like, check out and make them stay honest

I think running a triple option in 6 man is very difficult. Even if you put guys way in the backfield your saying you have to gain 10 yards just to get back to where you started. I would personally play a 3-3 spy depending on what you were doing with your center. I would jam your two wr.s. My 2 De's would go hot as well as my mlb. my safety would come up and replace the line of scrimmage for any type of dump you were tyring to run. Fact of the matter is everyone would get back there so quick that there wouldn't be time for reads, options, etc.. Now when I bring 3 hot it doesn't give your center time to get down the field, nor do your wr's every get much more than ten yards, and if you pass its a 20 yard pass just to gain 10. Then if your dumping it off i have my safety spying the middle and my cb can break off his man 10 yards from the line of scrimmage.

Aside from defense and everything I just see it as: You have to pitch, you have to read, you have to hand it off, and if you want to pass you need to make it look like all these other things. I feel it just has to many variables to it. the more variables the more chances at making mistakes. I have a read option but not a triple. If you care to see it I'll post

To be honest, for the triple option I think you need a basic defense to stop it. My choice is is make your linebackers stay honest. Run a 2-3-1. Blitz your line, but float at the up backs. You can man your secondary up if you have the athlete. If you don't, make them zone it and keep big gains minimal. You need a smart safety who reads shallow, knows if to follow deep, and can stop the forward progress until the cavalry gets there. I only coached for 3 years, so that is just an amateur talking. There are some guys on here who really know their business.
