I was obviously there, and want to thank Seguin for the game. 2 seasons and only 2 loses, that's really good. Things happen in games like this. Let's not take it out on the kids. The imperfect refs might have missed some stuff, but I think they did ok getting a handle on the game in the second. Who knows?

Yeah the coaches do spend alot of time on here and its kind of 50/50 with the overrated thing.. I think Seguin is overrated but they did play a very great team! Didn't know seguin would lose there cool by taking cheap shots. But I kinda knew that Brenham would 45 them. I guess they have nothing else to say now. Basketball starts monday at lifegate! As for Brenham they will be going up against Tyler Street in Moody next Saturday! And yes the two best teams are playing in moody next weekend hands down! Should be a good one.. See ya there

Players are also responsible for their actions; however, I do agree the coaches and refs are the primary venues through which players get corrected. This said, I know late hits happen and I know #26, for example, plays hard and sometimes it happens (this doesnt bother me as much...as a coach you have to balance being aggressive and stopping at the whistle). My point on the two personal fouls is more that it really hurt seguin's chances to win. BUT cheap shots are another story! It seemed clear that seguin was upset after giving up the touchdown and somebody's temper got the best of them. Again...it happens and is a learning experience.

A little biased on the review of the cheap shot. Guy who took groin shot was called for personal foul for hitting guy with fairly cheap shot 30 yards behind TD run. Groin shot came on nexr play on extra point, no penalty called. Not sure they lost their cool, but it was clear at that point how the game would end. I will say as a person watching the game with no real dog in the fight, I thought some Brenham fans were mouthy. groin shot kid's mom yelled at lifegate sidelines after checking on her kid. The worst was some guy in a white T-shirt who was obnoxious. I was wondering if something was wrong with him. The refs had to talk to him a couple of times.

Aside from that, you are right on that it was a beat down. Not sure Lifegate was overrated, but instead Brenham just thy much better in this class. They were bigger and faster at every position. Think about it, they crushed Covenant who is in the Division 1 finals. They would crush Bracken too. They will slaughter Tyler Street. It will be an upset if the championship game goes onto 3rd quarter. Honestly, if I was setting the line, I would say Brenham -55 for championship game.

Actually there were offsetting personal fouls 30 yards back and mom yelled "lets play a fair game", (facing the other end of the field not lifegate sidelines). Now guy on sideline was a little excited to say the least. The refs told him he needed to be in the coaches box. Not sure why because he was a spectator not a coach. I was a little disappointed in the officiating, sometimes officials looked lost out there, but think they were trying to get the calls right all in all.

Nope. The personal foul was assessed against Brenham on the kickoff. Next year, the rule would have pulled the points off the board -- unsportsmanlike conduct is currently a dead ball penalty and next year will be interpreted as a live ball penalty.

Not to excuse the next play, and I know that the young man involved personally apologized for his actions ... but when I was in the locker room, paying the officials (okay, next time I'll pay them off before the game ... and I can tell you, my father-in-law, brother, second cousin and the guy from the bar who owes me money ARE NOT getting invited to my house for Christmas dinner...), they kinda reminded each other that when we were younger, we wore something called a "cup" to prevent such injuries. And mom needed to be sitting in the stands. I might understand a mom running out if the kid has a serious injury (MIGHT). Not a knee in the family jewels. It does hurt like heck, but most of us who have been so honored do end up living.

The gentleman running along the sidelines was identified in the program as an assistant coach. He needed to be in the coaching box. It reminds me why all schools need to invest in about 200 yards of that orange plastic fencing abnd a couple dozen t-posts and put a fence about 15-20 feet behind the sidelines with a strong warning that anyone who is not a part of the team MUST remain behind the fence. Try that trick next week at Moody and see how the TAPPS folks there react to that action. Or try it at your local UIL school/college or pro game. At that game, you'll get an opportunity to spend some time with a local police officer or sheriff deputy. And others.

1. Brenham is that good. They are one of the few private school teams that could compete in the top ranks of UIL. If they were a UIL team, I think they'd still be playing football. D1, D2 ... take your pick. Heck, they have a 30 point win over a team that will be playing the late game next week in Moody. I was picking my team (whadda ya think I wouldn't), but I believe there were several instances where I said there is no doubt on paper, Brenham was the better team. And they proved it on the field. Sometimes, being better on paper IS the same as being better on the field.

2. The coaching staff and players and many of the fans from Brenham are top notch folks. A couple things weren't right, but the Bible says those without sin shouldn't toss the first stone. I pointed out a couple things above that probably was a big pebble thrown out, but then again, I ain't sinless either.

3. For us to have any chance, we had to bring our A game. We obviously didn't. We had some penetrations early ... we didn't convert and my experience is that when you are going against an obviously superior team, you'd better take advantage of those chances early, because you won't get them again. And we didn't.

But you know, I'm proud of these young men and their coaches. 23-2 in two years ain't chopped liver and I can tell you I know a whole lot of coaches and players who would come close to selling their soul for that record.

4. Plan a nice late lunch around 3 pm if you're going to next week's game. It will be an early end. As I told Coach Tarbutton after the game, the worst thing that happened to any Brenham opponent this year was the fact that you lost last year to Christway, a game that was as a mismatch since David got that lucky shot on Goliath. Because now, this year, Brenahm isn't sitting around fat and happy as defending champions, but saying there ain't no way in God's good green earth we're letting that happen again. I'd come real close to betting everything I own that Brenham wins next week.

if we're overrated all of TAPPS is overrated.... Brenham is just THAT MUCH BETTER... no answer for #3... he probably had 12 sacks/tfl... there's no shame in losing to a team like that... my hat is off to brenham's program... and that shot, although a retaliation, is inexcusable and has been taken care of... hope there are no hard feelings between these teams in the future... i'll be in moody to cheer them to state..

Waking up ~ and quite amazed at some of the posts. I am the "Mom" who ran on the field to check on her son...and Yelled "Play Fair" to EVERYONE ~ Brenham and Seguin! And...I can assure you we heard some "YELLING ~ AND Craziness" from the Seguin sidelines

Let me give some history on the player that had the "Groin shot"...that player plays with heart...maybe like a Seguin player who had 2 personal fouls called. None the less, he has broken his nose (having a high tolerance of pain) runs to the sidelines to have it reset. To see him down not able to move we knew something was wrong. I am a mother first..always...I was stunned to hear "how" the event occurred...while you can joke and say that he should have had a cup, it was just the family jewels etc...maybe thought should be given to the deliberate act that occurred..and that it was so severe that the player was vomiting after the "groin shot". Lets not dwell on this, but lets not excuse or make light of the deliberate act by TWO players from Seguin and a Brenham player.

Benham was looking forward to the game, hoping for a fight and four quarters. We are blessed with a solid team and have respect for each game that has taught our players how to win, be good sports, and focus. I had the opportunity to visit with a Seguin Coach when he came to watch Brenham play, wonderful man who was a pleasure to meet. It is a gift to watch our players each week and enjoy their talent and abilities. But, the bigger picture is we want this to serve as a way to grow Godly men who learn to have integrity, heart, and serve the Lord. May Brenham WIN the State Game...But more importantly may we ALL enjoy this Holiday Season as we celebrate the birth of our SAVIOR!

Gods Blessings Sprinkled Brenham and Seguin~
The Field Running, Yelling Momma :P

Nevermind. But I've seen kids taken off field and airlifted from a football field. And I didn't see their mommas running on to the field. And in 50 years of watching professional, college and high school football, I've never seen a momma run out to the field to take care of their kid. I have seen a couple times when coaches called a parent to come out to the field.

(You know, I grew up watching the Packers and Vince Lombardi ... gosh, what would have Lombardi done if some momma or wife darted out of the stands to attend to her injured son or husband...)

Congrats on the win. Your guys were the bettter team out there.

 hell hath no wrath like a worried mom... couple things....

the man in the shirt was not a coach... he was a trainer with the same last name as a coach...

anything said by either side didnt change the outcome of the game...

we spoke to our unruly fans and the Brenham staff did the same... its the past...

there was nothing wrong with what that players mom said.. it was very clear at that point that something needed to be done..

i hope your son is ok and ready to beat tyler st...

our player had one personal foul which was helmet to helmet not a late hit..

after the foul play the game went clean...

Jeremy, a trainer is just like a coach and is restricted by rule to the coaching box unless he is summoned to come on the field to attend to an injury. I think it is acceptable for statisticians to go outside the coaching box to do their duties. Plus, there is NO REASON for fans to be crouwding the sidelines near the end zone.

Many years ago, a good friend of mine told a story of a game where dads from his opponents' school were screaming, often obscenties, at his kids from the sidelines. When the white hat official went to the other coach asking him to settle them down, he told the officials they were his assistants. The official told him to settle them down. He couldn't, and the ref started tossing flags and ejecting them as they continued. One of them actually stormed on the field to confront the official before cooler heads prevailed and escorted the idjit off the field and out of the facility.

Maybe I'm a mean old man, but one thing that does burn me is that even though we're small schools playing six man football, we often overlook simple decorum and respect for the GAME and the ATHLETES. There was lots of room in the stands yesterday on both sides. Fans should be in the STANDS, not standing around crowding the sidelines.

Yesterday was not the worst instance I've seen of that. It might not have even been in the top ten. It happens, sadly, too often.

I personally think that it is disrespectful to the student athletes when parents and fans are at the edge of the field, shouting instructions or sometimes worse to kids -- at any age. Mom, dad, sis, brothers and friends need to be in the stands or at best, at least 10-20 feet AWAY from the sidelines. Next year, you and me are gonna be putting up that fencing. On both sides of the field.

Sorry the talk of the one series of incidents has continued. Really should not define the game at all. Actually, looking back, what I take from it is how well the coaches and players got their teams back on track. I was at the opposite end zone on the extra point and didn't see what happened, but figured it probably wasn't coincidence. With the high emotion on the sidelines and the direction the game was going on the scoreboard, I commented to the guy next to me that I was worried this game could get ugly. The great thing is that it didn't. Who knows, maybe it was because momma told everyone to play fair. But I think the players and coaches deserve some credit for getting control of a potentially bad situation with a whole lot of game left to play.

What needs to be taken from this game is that Brenham has an unbelievable team for this level of competition. The team has been blessed with an unusual amount of size, speed, and talent for a school this small. My prediction is that by the end of this year, Brenham will have 45ed every team they faced with exception of the TAPPS D1 champion, a team they beat by 30.

1. On the play in question, 13 hit 19 from behind, back behind the play. Flag thrown, call for unnecessary roughness. 26 pushed 13, no call. Lifegate offered enforcement on extra point or kickoff, chose kickoff.
2. On extra point, 19 hit 13 in groin. No argument.
3. I only heard 13's mom say "Just play fair!" I've met her and she is a very nice person and if she said anything inappropriate I didn't hear it and certainly didn't have a problem with what she did say.
4. 19 apologized several times during and after game. I don't know how many times, he told me 3 or 4.
5. 13 refused to accept the apology, and I understand. Offered my hand after the game and he didn't want to take it, but did.
6. After the prayer, I hugged 19 and told him I loved him. 13 was next to us and laughed at us. I'm okay with that too.
7. 19 was not called for a personal foul during the game. The call was on 26.
8. 19 got hammered by, my count, 7, 13, 18, 26 and 85. All clean hits except the one that was flagged. Got no problem with that either.
9. I don't hear a lot during the game, but I did not personally hear the guy in the white shirt say anything, but he was talking directly to our players.
10. 19 felt terrible during the game, after the game and this morning. I expect we together will write 13 and his coach a letter of apology and make a decision on whether he should play in the all-star game.
11. I apologize for my son's actions to everyone and assure everyone that he is extremely contrite and that one play does not reflect his character.
12. Brenham is a great team and they played great. That's what champions do. Congratulations.
Coach Akin

It is nice that #19 took ownership of his actions...more often than not players deny this because it is so hard to prove.

Seguin I would be very careful criticizing a mom coming on to the sideline to check on her son...does not look good...I also understand your point...but at this point it may be an argument better made by someone else.

I also decided to sit in the Brenham stands because it provided a higher viewing point and I will point out two things:

1) I think the proximity of the fans can be very exciting and unique to small town football...I had a clear view and it never got out of control (the ref seemed to get riled up after missing a clear late hit by seguins #26 on brenhams #7...it was funny #7 ran and slapped the ref's rear and said something positive)...I dont see it any differently than unelevated bleachers (same access to the field)

2) The brenham fans do read this site apparently and I overheard multiple fans saying the team was motivated by the chatter on hear...I have said this before...players do read this and it does add extra incentive

Would it help to know that "momma" is also a nurse??

Nope - the man in the white shirt is a Dad and an EMT and not a "coach" of any sort. He does get very excited, tends to run along the sideline, but did go do as told and stayed in the box. There was another assistant coach also in a white shirt, taking stats (he's a volunteer coach) and he was out of the box too - they both got in the box after being told. I might point out that there was very little space from the sideline to the edge of the stands on our side - that's not an excuse - just an observation.
