Old Photographs

There is an article associated with the pic of Wimberly but I'm having a little problem with file size. If I can get it edited and still be able to read it, I'll post it also.

Awesome stuff! During World War II women teachers in small town schools were called in to coach as males were fighting for our country...several schools stopped playing football for several seasons...I know Blackwell did pretty much...

I remember perusing this book at Hastings shortly after it came out. Had a picture of Jonathon Parsons of Strawn (03 State Defense MVP) scoring a TD in his Soph or Jr year. It cost too much/I didn't have the $ for a coffee table/picture book (40+ of em).
Bought it today used through Amazon, "Good Condition", 97% positive dealer rating of 400,000 ratings. We will see.
$2.89 + 3.99 shipping.

My sister-in-law gave me a copy of this book for Christmas the year it was first published.
This was before I was even introduced to 6 man and I wondered why she gave me this particular book.
I still don't know but I'm glad she did.

Curious about the Forsan 1938 picture. My dad went to high school in Forsan and played 6man around that time. Any names listed on the picture. Looking for Darrell Adams.

The Wimberley team pictured here (1944) could have been a junior high team, as the writer mentions that teams were formed in the late 40's, but the last HS class there was 1942.

Here is one from Oklahoma in honor of my DSW who was born in that state.....

I just found a reference to a school in Illinois that played 6Man in the '30's and 40's, Sherrard High School (Sherrard, IL). Anybody have any info on that? OBK?

I see smokeyjoe's been making good use of the internet!

I have some cool pictures of live game action from a six-man game being played in California in the 40s...with the Mojave Desert as a back drop!

I can remember seeing Pics of high school football teams from the 40's and 50's on high school walls when I was young. You can only wonder where those old pics go when new schools are built. The history that just disappears.

dawg...if you are lucky...in a closet...

While we are on this...

The Blackwell school library was dedicated to my grandmother back in 95, and there was a nice bronze plaque and a framed photo of her that hung on the wall...when they tore down the school and built the current one...I stopped in to remind them to not forget to put up the plaque and picture in the new building....that's been about 3 years ago...they never have done it!

She was a local historian and collected a lot of old photos and stuff that pertained to the school and town and had it in the old library...it's all packed up in a closet and I bet some of it has "walked off" in the move. They don't care about anyone but themselves and the here and now...no respect and don't care about doing the right thing!

Welp that got me on my soap box!

Leman Saunders

PS: I have been VERY tempted to just go to the school and take back all the stuff she collected for them during her 25 years of service to the school!

I had found an old photo of the school several years ago and I don't have it any more. Illinoisy consolidated almost all the small schools 20 years ago and nixed 6 and 8 man football for those that remained.
