New Mercy Rule Idea

When we have enough players for two teams we play a JV schedule. But it is either played on Thursday or before the varsity game, not afterwards.
Most schools never quite have enough players on a year-to-year basis to plan for JV schedules, so why do you keep posting about a few schools that do? Do you have a list of D2 sixman schools that consistently play JV schedules?

Would the rule change be adjustable say team A has 8 players and team B has 8 players but team A is still winning but more than 45 at the half would second half still be required

Tweaking the mercy rule to allow seldom played players to get an opportunity to perform isn't about fixing something that ain't broke, it's about improving what we have. Looking at all the blowout games played last night, how on earth does it hurt to allow the second teamers to scrimmage the opposing teams second teamers for a third quarter? Our basketball teams, baseball teams and volleyball teams don't appear to have a mercy rule. Our track teams don't go home early when they win the first race either. It's all about the opportunity of our teenage boys getting more chances to play in the short four years they get in high school.
If a game is over at half, why not play the second half as a scrimmage and keep the referees there? That way your 2nd and 3rd teamers get their reps without affecting stats. If I had a stingy defense, I would want to keep shutouts intact rather than let my 3rd stringers give up a few TDs and skew the facts. Continuing to play also could affect single game records. If whatever happened after the 45 doesn't count in the record books, everyone wins.

I wouldn't be against if a team is down by 45 at half then they get two possessions to try and close that lead if they fail then games is over, now if the teams is down my 45 plus two scores or more at half I would say stick to regular rules or just shorten the time on the game, that's about all I got.

I don't agree with the original post just for the simple fact of changing the scoring then also you will have teams just putting up crazy stats as if they aren't already crazy as it is with teams who only play two quarters. I believe this would water down the game more than it already is in the overall publics view.

Crazy stats is averaging 9 offensive plays per game for 15 games.
