May vs. Jonesboro

What is your answer for May last (11/15/2024) night?
Same answer that everyone who plays Gordon this year or last year or next year had or will have. That answer is I’ll be glad when that class graduates! Lol. Gordon is awesome. No one will stop that train this year. State Champs again. Congratulations. I won’t say good luck cause they don’t need it. I will pray for no injuries and safe travels for the team and cheerleaders and all the fans.

My reply has very little to do with May or Jonesboro, but to address the success that Gordon is currently experiencing. The “class” has some very good athletes and would have success in any venue. But, the real reason is the Gordon Head Coach. Mike Reed is one of the best Sixman football minds to ever coach the game. You can count on the fingers of one hand the coaches who could take the most average JV and in a short time mold them into a varsity contender. Mike Reed is one of them. Then, when a Coach of this caliber happens to have the good fortune of a few great athletes coming through the system, ……
The factors of Tradition, community support, parents who care, kids with heart and try, and the guidance of a great Coach all add up to success. Not just the “flash in the pan” kind that we see in some programs, but consistently, year in and year out.
