game over at the half

Just think ... that's 5.6 points (or nearly a touchdown) every clock minute of the game (2 ten minute quarters).

Yeah, but. What was the point? It's kind of beyond proving your dominant. Over somebody. They could have taken a knee earlier.

Looks like we have a new one from this past weekend to add to the list of high scoring games.

High Island 123, Nueces Canyon 76

Yeah, Nueces put up more points on HI in their first year than Richland Springs did.
There was something about this on last weeks finals only page.

Proliferation of the spread. Rusty Russell was on to something. Although it took a long time to catch on.
Particularly suited to sixman when you have a outstanding spreadback with a team that can catch and run, IMHO.
Then again, it could all be due to a lack of emphasis on the basics of defense.

I'm just curious with the 45 point mercy rule. What is the largest point spread in 6-man football... Anything over 50 points would have to be in the first half... Could get 44 at the half and only 6 more after half... Just curious what is the largest spreads?

What year did the mercy rule come into effect in Texas? I'm thinking mid-sixties, but I really don't know. In the early sixties there were some lopsided scores.

Mercy rule was a new rule in the 1939 rule book. It was and still is optional to observe it. Back in the day not all schools used it, in the 1948-50s time frame the national magazine Six-Man Football would only accept stats from schools that observed the 45 point rule and beginning from that point on more and more began using it and now everyone does except in exhibition games usually.
