It appears that USA Today ran some snippet about last night's Midland Trinity-Loraine game being the highest in history... well, we all know that is not true and Midland Trinity was even in a game FOUR years ago that was higher... the most recent high-scoring games

There is one game on this list that haunt's me. There is one game on it that was played in week fifteen.
It has to be the wildest game I've ever seen. A State Championship at that. I thought on the way home you score 88 points in the State Championship and get beat? How many times has that ever happened? (none).
Hat's off to Chudej and company, Coach Vance Jones (3rd (?) State Championship).
I know, if, if, if, Trey Doyle's foot had not been injured the score might have been different.
Maybe 122-120.
How many teams would love to just win a playoff game?

I still remember my 1st 100 point game (by one team) in Glen Rose. It was the State Semi the year before the game I mentioned above. The Hounds had been eliminated from the playoff's the previous two years by the Panthers. They wanted to play them. The Hounds ahead 96-70, with about a minute left, the Panther QB threw a wounded duck as he was hit. Future state Defensive MVP Jonathan Lindsey stumbled forward in the flat for the interception with no one between him and the goal line. I think we took a knee on the XP.
They guy behind me, his wife or girlfriend, and friend left about a minute before saying they had seen enough. I think he said they were from Austin.
 
I think part of the reason for such high scoring games is the field is only being played on 40 yard fields. It seems very few teams kick deep anymore. When you start each drive at midfield or better you are going to get high scoring games. Why do most teams not kick deep? You have to trust your players to make a few tackles I would think.

One clinic I went to gave a pretty good description of why you kick short in six man. Unless you have a kicker who can put the ball in or past the end zone, you don't want to put your team in the position of having to try to stop a kid with a head of steam.

I think there were a couple teams (Maybe SA Winston and Holy Trinity) a few years back that had 6 or 7 kickoffs in a row run back for touchdowns.

Anyway, back to my story. If you look at the 11 man field width and think about each player on the kicking team having to protect his "lane," that lane is about 5 yards on either side of him, or 10 yards wide. In 6 man, although the field is narrower, the lane increases to 10 yards on either side of each player on the kicking team, or 20 yards. In a game where one missed tackle often means 6 point for the other side, that's a lot of ground to defend.

Kick it short, and see if the defense can get a stop. That's the way to win.
 
I'm just curious with the 45 point mercy rule. What is the largest point spread in 6-man football... Anything over 50 points would have to be in the first half... Could get 44 at the half and only 6 more after half... Just curious what is the largest spreads?
