Gordon Longhorns

What's going on out there? Just read this on another thread: "The announcers just said Gordon had 105 yards in penalties to Savoys 15 yards. They said both coaches are at midfield discussing the last penalty with each other?"

First of all, I never post on this board. I feel the need to in this case.
There were 2, not 6 unsportsman like penalties. They were retaliation penalties, and will be delt with. Our kids played hard as did the savoy cardinals. I would like to congradulate them on a great season. That being said, I would like for you to get your facts straight before talking about my team on a public forum. Like I said before, I never post on these threads but feel the need to take up for my kids when something is falsely said about them.

Thanks,
Shane mallory

I also never post on here, but I would like to congratulate Gordon on their win tonight. And Savoy on a great season. Now having said that, I would like to address the situation tonight. Coach you have a athletic group of boys and they are obviously coached by a able man. But the sportsmanship was terrible! That is just the facts. One unsportman like conduct call it to many but two is definatley unacceptable! And yes there weren't six but the facemask, late hits and the "in your face trash talk" should be embarrassing to you and anyone from Gordon. My girlfriend whom is no football guru mentioned to me how "dirty" the play was from Gordon before the second half even started. And trying to justify it by saying it was in retalllition only makes it look worse! As I said the better prepared team won the game tonight as they should have, but if I had anything to do with the Gordon program, there would be some serious repercussions for some of the players behavior come Monday morning!
Good luck with the rest of your season.

I will say that I didn't count penalties from either side. I will not take anything away from either teams. I did see on one occasion after a Gordon player lost his cool, then one of the Gordon coaches had talk with him. Afterward that the player settled down and played without further issue. These young men have pride and egos and when you get a good shot put on you or maybe a tug on a jersey to slow you down, they look to get even. It happens on every play and on every team.

I congratulate the Longhorns and wish them well in the playoffs. They found a weakness and exploited it. They are a very talented group and are savy in the ways of sixman football.

I think the world of these Cardinals. They have done something never accomplished in our school history. They showed that they could play and be competative with teams that nobody thought possible. They will have setbacks and this was one. Learn from it and grow, its the way of life. I know it hurts, but remember the pain and use it for motivation in the future. I'm a homer for my team and I see things on every play that I may not like, but I'm sure that there were some fans from Gordon that didn't like some things our boys did too. I just don't want a war of words to take away from what the Cards accomplished during the season.
Enough said from me.

Well said, I won't be chiming in other than that.

Boys will be boys....As a Gordon fan i am not embarrassed in the least bit by the team, or anything those players did or did not do. You see Mr. or Mrs Snow73 which ever your opinion is slanted toward your team the same as mine is slanted towards mine..you are probably a parent of a kid on the team and you feel bad for them since they lost. I understand but the fact of the matter is Gordon did what Gordon was expected to do. in every pick prior to this game Gordon was picked to win by 45, and guess what they did. So what happened was suppose to happen. Now for some of your "facts" "Savoyfan" yes there were 105 yards of penalties on Gordon and Savoy only had 15... for a face mask which the kid ripped the helmet off the Gordon players head...judgement call official could have called UN-sportsmanship conduct chose to call face mask...as for the "trash talking" i spoke with a coach from Saint Jo who was on the Savoy sideline and guess what....they were trash talking just like Gordon was you know what that means....there are no "Saints" and both teams may have been guilty of having a chip on their shoulder and getting a little mouthy. I get it Savoy was undefeated prior to this game...mostly du to a soft schedule which I understand since that this was their first year in Six man but let's just be real losing shows what type of character you have and coming on a message board whining about this and whining about that shows the lack of that character, not by the players but by a few people. I say congratulations to Savoy on their season, they have some talented kids and a lot of younger talent. I will never say anything negative about the kids on any team maybe you should do the same.

I specifically said Gordon was the better team. Although I was suprised I actually thought they would be better than what they were...The Savoy coach is learning to. And obviously he struggled. The game would have stayed closer probably if he would have played different. But 10-1 is still a good start for a first year program no matter what the schedule. And they have a good foundation now. So hats off to the players and the coach.
Now as for the boys will be boys....Somtimes you can go a whole year without seein one unsportsmanlike call. And. You'll had TWO in a matter of minutes! Not to mention the load of penalties for dirty play several of which could have easily resulted in more unsportsmanlike calls! And from what I have read on another thread here, I can see why this is not embarrassing to you. As It has already been posted how rude and trashy the fans were to other teams. As they say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree". I don't think people who know even a little about the game expected Savoy to bring home a State championship trophy or anything, but it sure would've have been easier to cheer Gordon on if they would've not played so dirty.

I wasn't at the game, but I personally know several people from Gordon. My daughter is a senior there The people I know are far from rude. I find it offensive that you would insult good people. Every school has their mouthy fans and hot-headed players, but it isn't right to base your opinion of a group on the actions of a few.

Cowboy P, to be fair we were far enough away from the Gordon side that I never heard anything over the top from their fans. I was just refrencing a post about them made a few weeks ago, wondering if their was a correlation there? Now as far as the players they can be controlled. And for coach Mallory to come on here and defend the unsportsmanlike calls as "retaliation"! That's pretty weak! I would have not said anything before I made an excuse like that. I'm sure there are plenty of good folks in Gordon. No disrespect to them.

I had no dog in this fight but I did elect to attend this game as I thought it would be a good one. No doubt it was. First quarter was as good a match up as I have seen this year. For a while it looked like a 6-0 would be the end of the first quarter score but this is Six man, and the last minute and half was a busy one.

I spent the first quarter on the Savoy side and the second on Gordons side. Both teams had a lot of fans at the game and the fans were really into supporting their team. I noticed/heard a mouthy fans on both sides but nothing too bad. The worst I saw was the officiating, it would be nice see hands in the air after a PAT, for some reason the two officials never did that and if you were watching you might see one nod yes if the kick was good. Most of the time you had to wait to see if the points made it the scoreboard.

Seemed to me the calls were biased in favor of Savoy but the game itself was a fairly good clean one from where I was watching. I saw good sportsmanship from players on both sides of the line.
If Savoy could have adjusted to the passing game that Gordon went to, it might have been a lot closer.

Now the C-stand, well that's another matter. . .

Pete, I also found the no signals on the field goals irritating. But you saw good sportsmanship on both sides? Take away all the mouthing and bowing up the Gordon players did. But then why the two unsportmanlike calls on Gordon? And look at the penalties they were getting in the third and what they were for. You say you have no bias, but look at the facts. Sounds like you do have some bias.....

Those of us that have followed Gordon closely the past few years know that they are a well coached, good hearted, and disciplined squad. They come into games respecting their opponents. There were a couple of poor choices made by both teams, but this is nothing new in football. The game... especially when the season is on the line is played with high intensity and emotion. What was highly unusual for Gordon was the penalized yardage... mainly due to two big touchdowns being called back (a call of passer across the line and a block in the back)... gordon had more penalty yards last night than probably the combined regular season. Losing hurts bad... especially in the playoffs... especially with an undefeated record. Gordon has been there.. and its easy to be mad at the world and want to lash out. It was a good battle... Savoy put a great fight and NEVER gave up... I expect them to do very well in the years to come.

I'm not sure who is lashing out? I'm proud of our boys obviously, but was the final outcome of the game what I expected? Yes. Once again for those that to choose to ignore it, Gordon had the better team.
What I am suprised at is Coach Mallory coming on here and defending bad behavior, by saying it was in retaliation! Not professional at all!!! And Once again Savoy wasn't the one getting flagged repeatedly for being unsportsmanlike or cheap shots! So I'm not sure how both teams made bad choices?
