I would like to hear peoples thoughts on how Fredericksburg Heritage is going to look in the '08 season. :D

My guess ... and it's just that.

First, Tim Shipman is still there. That's good for Fred, bad for the rest of us. Well, that assumes he learns how to coach this year, since all he and his staff have done the last four years is say "Let Ramsey Run It." He's gotten away with writing his game plan on the back of a postage stamp for years. Seriously ('cause all that is what is called "sarcasm"), he's really good at his job and I am constantly amazed that some UIL school hasn't snapped him up. Must like Fredericksburg, that's all I can say.

Second, even though the "star" is gone, there are a boatload of kids that are left that have only lost three games in four years. They don't know how to lose a game, and that's a bit of a confidence builder that I wouldn't mind having. I expect they'll win a couple games that they shouldn't just for that reason.

Now, off hand, I don't have their schedule, but if I remember what I was told, it may be a bit of a murders row before their two district games (Town East and Lifegate) in weeks 9-10. They have enough incoming freshmen to play a JV schedule with a primarily freshman squad. If they can stay healthy (always an issue for small six man), they will be pretty good.

My prediction: They win their district and go deep in the playoffs. A return to the finals isn't out of the question, may depend on the brackets.

Heirholtzer, Ham, Beal, Thompson, just to name a few of freddy's very dangerous returning players. Look for a battle of D2 titans between Freddy and Christway for state. Should be fun to watch.

no slam on christway, but when did they become a D2 titan? i believe they are one of the top teams in D2 this year though.

how does a team moving up in class make another team a titan? christway is very talented, they were very talented last year as well. so, lets just wait and see what the year has in store before we start handing the trophy to them, or any other team. again, i would say they are ONE of the favorites this year, but not a shoe-in. their coach would agree.

To answer you question sixmanalltheway22, Beal will be a senior and he plays qb. The other three will all be juniors, and their positions are tougher to define. For the past two years, they have been complements to Ramsay. I would gues that Heihotzer and Johnson would be the two main running backs, and Ham would be used as a utility speed player. Defensively all I remember was Ham at corner.

Wow three of the more dangerous players are only gonna be juniors? looks like even in the '09 season this team will have quite a fight in them. Thanks for the info. I knew they were a good team i am just not familiar with the players. Will the new runningbacks be more like ramsey and run over people or are they more of the speed and dodge players?

I woulnet call them Ramsay, but their their pretty strong youmg lads. They have both speed and power. By the way, your name begs the question, did you ever pole vault?

sorry i'm a newby to the sixman football.com thing but, Johnson is really struggling with making a decision about playing football this year, as some as you know he had an ACL and meniscus surgery. He is praying about this really hard and seeks the Lords guidance. If you could keep him in your prayers that would be awesome. I would really like to see the kid play football again. It has been a year since i've seen him play and the one game i saw him in his freshman year, Towneast vs. Freddy playoffs, he really surprised me along with a couple of others.

Brother Robert ... I'd say Christway is one of the favorites for a couple reasons, one being that they've gone into the playoffs the past couple years. But D-II is a little weaker this year, with Glenview and Covenant both gone.

Depth is going to be a factor this year ... teams with deep benches will do well. That puts both you and Heritage in the mix, and darn if you aren't both in the same district. The story that I heard that Christway had to cancel their scrimmage with Greenville Christian due to pre-season injuries and only 10 players (we have 9) makes me pause a bit about making them a pre-season favorite.

And even with their difficulties reported in the past, I still would consider Houston Texas Christian as a competitive team in this classification; Bellville Faith, El Paso Jesus Chapel, Lubbock Christ the King and Christway all have to be considered as strong contenders in this class. Oh, and both Wichita Falls schools are capable of making some noise.

The early money, in my book, is still on Heritage. But health and depth are going to be the deciding factors. Or at least that's what I'm saying. The champs still have depth and a moderately competent coaching staff (see note above re: sarcasm).

Oh, by the way, Coach Rabon and I were talking about an interview he had with the local sports editor. He pointed out that it would be possible in our district, a team could go 9-1 and miss the playoffs (8-0 in nondistrict and then split the two district games 1-1 and lose the playoff spot via tiebreaker) ... or 1-9 and make the playoffs (0-8 in nondistrict and the same district scenario as above)...

John

John, let me be the first to say that i believe that Brenham Christian and Waco Parkview are going to hard to beat this year. Brenham is not the same team they were last year, they have added alot of good new players, they are really loaded. Waco has a new coach and some new players this year plus alot of returning players that I believe are going to make them very competitive. I am anxious to see how it all plays out.

Don't assume that the poster in question is a resident of Gillespie County, if you know what I mean. Hey, I can make my username "King of England," but that doesn't make me royalty or a resident at Buckingham Palace.
