What is up with Dickens County teams.

Spur forfeit to Chillicothe
Patton Springs forfeit to Trent

here's a solution, Why don't Patton Springs and Spur consolidate, this way they will have enough to play a schedule........
There, I got the ball rolling, now someone needs to finalize the deal

Tkeith,
Great start to your season....... Wish you well....

But if schools like Afton-Patton Springs are LOW on #'s and Spur is having to forfeit games, Then maybe CONSOLIDATING is a way to go......
How does a forfeit in the schedules of Chillicothe and Trent help those schools.
They've worked all week, had the game schedules and looking forward to playing.
Now they have 2 bye's in their schedule.
Just what if, those were home coming games as well.....

Ok, I have watched this and I am going to chime in, knowing someone will most likely jump my case.

When kids get injuries, coaches do not play them. Spur and Patton both have injuries and I do not blame the coaches for protecting their kids. Does it stink to not have a game, YES, but, in the greater scheme of things, I am a teacher/coach and my responsibility is to keep the kids safe. I would rather skip this game and hope that the kids from Spur get healthy as opposed to them playing and getting injured worse.

Good luck to Spur and Patton Springs.

Very well said Coach Miller....

No one is talking about HARMING kids....

All I've said is...... Consolidate......

I know Afton Patton Springs has been on life support for the past 5 years...
So why don't they CONSOLIDATE....

I also like the name Dickens County Spurs

Why don't chilli and Trent play in dickens county. Some one bring chilli and some one bring tents......
Tents become hot air balloons after I eat a bunch of chili! How this thread stays alive beats the dickens out of me!

So Grandfalls had to forfeit a game this week bc they had short numbers... but a coaches decision to do that may just save the health of the players and give them a shot at the semifinals. Yes, this is not the same situation as Patton Springs... and I think most expected more out of Spur this year, but these things happen in Sixman. Gustine could barely field a team last year, played with 6 guys for most of the season, and now are playing in division 1 against May, Gordon and Strawn, who all have JV teams. I have to give credit to the teams that stick with it. Makes for great stories. You also have to realize, for some of these schools, football isnt the end of their life, and so consolidation and merging of an entire district, isn't the answer to make a better school for the local kids in every situation.
