Coverboy canidates

I can not speak for when Granger did the stuff for Dave Campbell's but since I started to do some of the six-man stuff in 2011...I do not pick or write the cover boy article, I fill out the team capsules, write the season preview article and influence the top ten's and district predictions stuff (this year the top tens are all mine and I have been working hard to get more recognition in the magazine for six-man and I think some cool things are in store for this years issue!)...I pushed hard for Lance Morris last year because I knew he would break Ken Hall's career rushing record...and the guy who wrote the cover boy article decided to pick him...and this year I also put a word in his ear about possible picks...I can not say what goes into picking the cover boy 100%, the guy who does it is an "in-house" guy at DC's and they do the entire Winter Edition "In-House", I had zero input in the winter edition.

A lot of the info is based on what coaches turn in.

I think there was only 1 time a kid was picked that had off the field issues...I don't think it has happened as much as Wildcatmans post would suggest.

Coverboys for Six-Man in Dave Campbell's Magazine (Summer Edition)

1998 - Damien Jackson, Trinidad (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
1999 - No Coverboy article
2000 - No Coverboy article
2001 - No Coverboy article
2002 - Brandon Hoskins, Whitharral (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2003 - ??? - (i don't know, I don't have that issue)
2004 - Michael Young, Rising Star (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2005 - Tanner Woods, Follett (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2006 - Bryce Hogue, Throckmorton (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2007 - Tyler Ethridge, Richland Springs (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2008 - Travis Walker, Calvert (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2009 - Michael Cooley, Borden County (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2010 - Michael Everett, Throckmorton (senior) - article by Granger Huntress
2011 - Denim Reeves, Richland Springs (senior) - article by Greg Tepper (in house DC guy)
2012 - Lance Morris, Ira (senior) - article by Greg Tepper

For those 11:
4 won state championships the year they were picked (Jackson, Ethridge, Cooley, Reeves)
1 was on a team that lost in the state game (Everett)
1 lost in the first round of the playoffs (Young)
1 was on a team that did not make the playoffs (Woods)

and I think only one got seriously hurt in their coverboy season...Hoskins in 2002 and that was late in the season

Just for kicks...here is the Dave Campbell's Winter Edition Players of the Year selections (minus 1 year I can't remember)

2009 (2008 season): Division I - Jonathon Lindsey, Strawn (senior); Division II - Michael Cooley, Borden County (junior)

2010 (2009 season): Division I - ???; Division II - Michael Cooley, Borden County (senior)

2011 (2010 season): Division I - Brett Chuej, Garden City (senior); Division II - Denim Reeves, Richland Springs (junior)

2012 (2011 season): Division I - Tucker Brown, Throckmorton (senior); Division II - Denim Reeves, Richland Springs (senior)

2013 (2012 season): Division I - Tyler Russell, Abbott (senior); Division II - Chance Bush, Richland Springs (senior)

Tyler Russell is the only one who did not win a State Championship

Don't get me wrong here, Russell had a good year and was a POY type player for sure...but for what it is worth if I was picking the 2012 Player of the year for DI I would have went with one of these three:

Tanner Richey-4,309 total offensive yards gained; 3,536 yards rushing; 166 tackles (beat and out played Mitchum head to head)
Dalton Mitchum-4,974 total offensive yards gained; 3,676 yards rushing; 150 tackles
Gary Farquhar-1,584 yards receiving, 32 receiving TDs; 5-190 yards, 3 TDs receiving in the State Game

Michael Valencia of Santa Anna had remarkable numbers on both sides of the ball and will alot better his sr year

My opinion....

UIL - Lex Bond from Crowell...... The young man is a PHYSICAL SPECIMEN......
Saw him play 3 games last year.... A REAL STUD

PRIVATE SCHOOL - Austin Dudley(RB)/Colton Bofinger(QB), The Alvin Living Stones Connection to get them to the state game in Div. II TAPPS.
Saw these young men as freshmen and have seen the strides they've made.
I look for these two to lead LSCS to the State Game in 2013.....
HEAR THE LION ROAR

abbott has a stable of players that i am confident will lead their team deep this upcoming season. most of which already have the experience of going to state this past year and will be looking to finish the job this year.
