Coverboy canidates

3-peat13

With the new Dave Campbell summer edition magazine coming out soon, that also means its time for a new coverboy, or "preseason player to watch", I am needing possible candidates for this award, with six on sixes about to get rolling and then two a days I need to know which players I need to watch out for, any ideas on some possibilities??

Though public schools might not be as ready to admit it, look at Dallas Covenant this year to have the best player in sixman to watch. two backs to watch at this school for next year, a power back with speed and a speed back with power. we'll see once again in preseason/hico how ready this team is to contend with the big dogs

Junior Marquez Grandfalls/Royalty. this school has waon three of the four track meets this spring. and did not run in the finals of the one they did not win.

Rawlin Morrell a senior RB/S from Throckmorton will be tough. Even fighting back from a broken femur his sophomore year has always proven to prevail and will be hard to beat if given the chance to show his worth.

What is the enrollment?
just wondering i think Midland Trinity is in the 130's

I have just revisited the D1 all-state teams. Both Kirkland of Water Valley (SB) and Oliver of Throckmorton (QB) were both first team all-state. I think it would be hard to move away from either one of them.

I'm gonna have to agree with blue bird. Toss up between those two, Oliver would be a better story with what all his brother's have done, but got to watch Kirkland who is a stud also, surely its one of those two kids

I've also been curious of how a coverboy is selected, do a bunch of inside sources give cambell a list of kids and he chooses from that? Or does Dave handpick them himself??

Great Q!!

Is there a cover boy curse like there is in the NFL madden game? How has the seasons ended for those that have been on it before?

Eaglespirit?! You made me laugh. Lol. Great story indeed it sounds like. But "if given the chance to prove his worth"? Those darn coaches!!!! He does catch the eye and I looked up the story after your comment and it is a great story. But I've seen Throck play for years and I think it would be hard for them to have a cover boy. They spread the wealth very well and hard to have a single standout. They've had the player of the year in back to back years and no cover boy. Just good for thought.

I know there has been a cloud over some of the previous cover boys from off the field character decisions. I think things the selection people miss are cause coaches arent open about to them because they want the recognition for their school. A double edge sword.

I'm sure it causes coaches stress cause of jealousy and other factors. But I'm sure most coaches would rather not have this accolade.

I think there are some really good individuals that I've seen on some really good teams. You can't go wrong. But instead of campaigning or politicing. Let the chips fall where they may. And know the selection came from your actions on the field and off the field. Not cause of play calling, or this parent, or this coach, or that reason or this reason. Be the cover boy of your program and lead your team. Every losing cover boy would trade that accolade for the ring in December.
