Last regular season loss was to Panther Creek - not sure where.
RS could not have done what they have without Goob.
Any speculation on where the RS Jonesboro game will be next week? Hico?
Since you're "speculating"...

why couldn't it be
RS/Trinidad next week?

Johansons make $5 million-plus gift to Tarleton
Dr. Lamar Johanson and his wife Marilynn Timberlake Johanson, with Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio during a ceremony announcing the couple's life estate gift benefitting the university.
STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Former Tarleton professor Dr. Lamar Johanson and his wife, Marilynn Timberlake Johanson, have made a life estate gift, estimated to be in excess of $5 million, for the benefit of Tarleton State University.

The gift includes nearly 1,700 acres of farm and ranch land, with mineral rights, in San Saba and Mills counties. Terms of the agreement allow a portion of the property to be used as an academic laboratory to support Tarleton research, academic programs, and other university functions, while another portion will provide much needed scholarships and create a maintenance endowment.

The gift was announced at a ceremony Nov. 13 on the Tarleton campus.

Marilynn Johanson spoke about her family’s connection to Stephenville. After she and Lamar moved to Stephenville in 1961, her grandmother, Effie Stephen Timberlake, told her a story.

“It’s very interesting that you and your young husband have chosen Stephenville as your home,” her grandmother told her. “There is something you need to know. My grandfather, John M. Stephen, gave the land for the town of Stephenville. … Would John M. Stephen be impressed with our gift to the university? I don’t have a clue. But his granddaughter Effie Stephen Timberlake knew the value of education and would have said, well done, young folks, well done.”

While their parents did not have the opportunity to go to college, Lamar Johanson said, “they all valued a college education and they instilled in both Marilynn and me the need and value of a college education.

“Because of the effort and hard work by those who came before us a nice asset was developed,” he continued, “and today we are passing on a large portion of that asset along to help students gain a college education. We know of no way to better invest in the future of this great nation of ours than to invest in the education of our youth.”

Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio praised the couple for their “gift of the heart”—land developed by their ancestors.

“Through teaching and service, previous giving and enthusiasm for Texan athletics over many years, Marilynn and Lamar Johanson have been among Tarleton’s staunchest supporters,” Dottavio said. “Their extremely generous gift will provide opportunities for our faculty and will affect generations of Tarleton students. Many deserving young people will be able to see their dream of a college education come true due to the generosity and vision of the Johansons. We are profoundly grateful.”

Dr. Karen Murray, provost and executive vice president of academic affairs, said, “Lamar and Marilynn have had a tremendous impact on Tarleton students for 40 years. This gift will assure their influence on Tarleton students for generations to come. Their actions are exemplary and epitomize our core values and mission.”

Lamar Johanson retired in 2001 after 40 years of service to Tarleton. Among other duties, he served as a professor of biological sciences, chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and as the first executive director of Tarleton State University System Center-Central Texas in Killeen.

Lamar Johanson and Marilynn Timberlake are both products of San Saba County. Lamar, son of Clyde and Bonnie Battle Johanson, was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Hays County at the home of his maternal grandparents, Dudley and Sally Battle. Home for the Johanson Family was Cherokee, Texas. Lamar started school in the old Cherokee School House that once housed the F.M. Behrns' West Texas Business College. This building burned when Lamar was in the third grade. He enjoyed sports and played both football and basketball for the Cherokee Indians. Lamar was salutatorian of his 1953 Cherokee High School graduating class.

Marilynn Frances Timberlake was born July 12, 1939, in San Saba at the home of her maternal grandparents, Carl and Myrtle House Bryant. She is the only child of Roy and Geneva Timberlake. She grew up on the family stock farm and enjoyed playing and doing outside chores. Marilynn was a member of the Class of '57 at San Saba High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman's University and in 1980 earned her master’s degree from Tarleton State University.

They first met in 1954 in the local diner on Wallace Street in San Saba. Lamar was a student at Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force after graduation in 1958.

Lamar and Marilynn were married July 2, 1960, at the First Baptist Church in San Saba. They established their first home at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Ill. Lamar was clinical laboratory officer in charge of the hospital lab and pharmacy.

Following the completion of Lamar's military duty, the couple moved to Stephenville in 1961 where Lamar had accepted a position at Tarleton as an instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences. Marilynn was hired to teach vocational home economics at Hico High School.

In 1963, Lamar took a leave of absence from Tarleton to earn his doctorate in plant physiology and biochemistry from Texas A&M University. They returned to Tarleton in 1967.

Marilynn's professional career included classroom teacher in Hico and Stephenville High Schools, education specialist with Texas Education Agency, and as high school and elementary principal at Strawn ISD and Goldthwaite ISD. She retired in 1995 with 34 years of service to Texas public schools.

Today the Johansons live on the Timberlake Ranch in the Rye Valley Community of Mills County. The ranch became home to Marilynn's grandparents, W.C. and Effie Stephen Timberlake, in 1902. Located 15 miles from Goldthwaite, the land is surrounded on three sides by the Colorado River.

The Johansons presently maintain ranching and farming interests in both Mills and San Saba counties. They produce coastal hay and wheat and raise quality Braford cattle.

Ur rite. 6M playoff time, anything can happen. Just looked at records, spreads, JB beat Abbott & Oakwood, T-dad lost to them. Read on here a few weeks back "Jonesboro is healthy again. Saw JB in week 0.

Dr Lamar Johanson taught my 1973 Biochem class at Tarleton and he is special. He always showed interest in our questions and encouraged everyone to do their best. Thanks for posting the news about their donation. He influenced thousands of students over many years in a positive way. I guess you could say he educated a lot of the six man nation.

yes it's funny how R.S fans are... ill be the first to say Cherokee state run was with class and very well coach ...R.S fan now say it was only because Cherokee had the children's home is the only reason they won state ...let get this clear right of the bat ...home has been there since 1963 and since then we went to state game 4 times the home is still there ....tho R.S . Started foster care and found ways to bring in high school kids just to play football ...Cherokee did it with class and respect ...no horn sounds in the end zone ...running up the score just to keep the rating up ...if Cherokee ever got up 20 points coach Maddox would but in the 2nd team and at times 3 teams ...ask the old school from R.S. if they remember how much respect we gave them ...still to this day some still thank us for not running up there score for homecoming ....don't get me wrong my heart goes out to those family's in R.S who allow there home for foster care ...what goes up must come down so enjoy while you can R..S your time is coming

I think it is important to remember this:

I beileve the UIL first required proof of birth certificates with the 1977 realignment. How many playoff games has Marathon won since then? 4, 2 in 1977 and 2 in 1984.

I think it is important to remember this: as well
Mark white our gov back in 1984 pass the no pass no play rule ...yet R.S hmmmm has start kids ...amazing huh??? Maybe we should look into this a little more ...couple of years ago they were out of money almost closed it down ..... But wait they found a way to win win win ...

Richland Springs should get some credit if for nothing else, recruiting and coaching like champions. Given that most of the native RS'ers sit on their tailgates in amazement at how the cross bar is suspended between two uprights, You know they're not going to be cranking out rocket scientists on a regular basis.

Oh sure, every once in a while hybrid vigor will rear it's head and someone will graduate from RS who can actually comprehend a walk-don't walk signal on the street corners of the larger cities. But as a whole, the poor souls in RS are there because they can't figure out how to leave. Then they have kids. Then their kids have kids, etc. Unfortunately, due to an inbred co-efficient higher than that of dalmatians, they are not able to field a tennis team without a little help.

Richland Springs: "If we don't have a team, we'll get one from CPS".

I don't think that Richland Springs needs me to defend them on this board, but sometimes this harassment begins to irritate a normal person. You say that if D1 teams were scheduled, that the opposition would prevail through four quarters of play. LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE! Scrimmages with Valley, Throckmorton, Zephyr, Rochelle. D1 teams May, Gustine, Walnut Springs, Gordon (who, by the way, defeated Strawn). Enough said!

In 2003 Gordon beat Strawn and Richland Springs beat Gordon and Strawn beat Richland Springs so it don't matter who get beats in the regular season it all matters in the playoff

I see Rain-jackass is back in full swing! I don't know where you get your information Rj but its not a reliable source. Since I am parent of a 2011 graduate that is currently serving in the United States Navy I feel the need to slap you down for being an idiot. I am sure now you are going to attack a veteran and a current military member soon with some line of crap that she wasn't smart enough to go to college because of her poor RS education? No Rj, she unlike most of the country wanted to serve her country and work for college money instead of holding her hand out or going into debt up to her elbows.

Why do you even frequent this board other than to irritate decent folks and be a jerk? Do us a favor and move far, far away to some unbegotten Obama land!

Wow, people really like bringing down RS huh? Trying to blame CPS kids for championships. Let's look back at the monster's from RS..I won't name names but we all know who they're. Don't see too many of the workhorses who I don't remember either being in RS for a long time, or from Brookesmith. RS isn't the only 6m school to ever use foster children. Many different schools have and will continue to do it. Winning is winning, and like an old coach of mine used to say..If you don't like it...then STOP IT.

I guess you either skipped over the part about hybrid vigor, or you slept through your ag classes and had no clue what I was talking about. That's fine. People probably talk over your head a lot. But that's okay - I'm not judging.

God Bless your daughter for choosing to serve her country. My son is serving in the Air Force, currently stationed in England. I regret that my son did not think of enlisting sooner as it would have saved me from pointlessly shoveling cash into the ASU fire-furnace they call the admin building.

I make a few decent posts along the way each year. In fact, if you look around in this forum we're in, I think there is a rather heartwarming thread I created to capture the emotion of a senior's last game.

But posters like you, Blueribbon? Posters like you are the ones who keep me coming back to my bread and butter. I say something outrageous to get a rise out of you. And you respond with your own brand of frustration and flawed rational thought. Then I get to make fun of your response in a snarkily sarcastic tone that elicits even more anger from you.

I do this pretty much every year. And it has yet to fail that I can attract at least one person that wishes I would just go away. Thank you for making 2012 the 12th consecutive year for giving me the LOLZ. The only thing better for me would be a guest pranker on one of those Guatemalan hidden camera shows.

Just a thought, but no one's really seen goob since - well - around 9/11/12. And no one has seen that Broadwell chick that was macking on Petreaus. And you never see Broadwell and goob out together. Goob is an FBI plant to seduce powerful generals.

I made a point in the first sentence of my post to qualify it by agreeing that there is some top notch training and coaches at RS. It's not just the kids you import. Any idiot could be a foster parent. I know. I've seen some do it.

And any idiot can create a profile on sixmanfootball.com. I know, I've seen you do it:)

Well - technically - you know that I've done it. Given that our join dates are about 10 years apart, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you were no where around when I joined sixmanfootball.com

But if it makes you feel good to equate becoming a foster parent with creating a user account on a phpBB, then you've obviously never set one up yourself.

Touche. However, my point was still put across, and I was around at that time. This is just a new username. For the record, I'm also not a foster parent:)

I hope you were one of the folks that used to wake up in the morning, poor your cup o' coffee and see how upset I had made everyone.

Man, those were the good old days. There were little old Valley grandmothers who wished me dead. Or at least for me get caught cooking meth and go to prison for 50 years.
