If a field goal is blocked is the play dead or is it treated like a fumble? I know the rules for extra point kicks but I can not find anything that addresses field goals.
HPD is correct. The six-man rule where the play is blown dead when the defense gains possession of the ball or when "it is obvious that a kick has been attempted" only applies to the try after a touchdown, not a field goal.
