2026-2028 TAPPS Alignment

I'm living out in Louisiana and my son is in a private school here where they participate in the Mississippi private school league. Then put a new PowerPoint system for playoffs and perhaps this could be used for a wild card system. Granted it can get a little muddled and confusing and you even had the instance of a team that threw a game to get into a lower bracket this year but you know. Nothing is perfect!

Tapps never gets it right IMO when it comes to thinking about the kids, Most leagues don't.. .. I said it as a player back in the day while playing in TAPPS at Duncanville Christway, I said it while coaching at Dallas Lutheran... It has NEVER been about the kids!!!

I’m still not crazy about loosing a round of the playoffs and kids missing an opportunity to practice over Thanksgiving break, but I can get behind the new system more with the release of the bracket information. Unless I missed it I didn’t see a clarification on what constitutes “big” school vs “small” school. I’d imagine that’s where the 1A and 2A will break off. It would have gone a long way had they released the bracket document at the same time as the calendar drop. 16 teams making it out of D3 was a big sticking point for me so I’m glad that still happens.

Having talked to some folks, it seems TAPPS didn’t poll every school for this, which I think is a mistake. This should have had more input because right now on the surface, it looks like they are placating to the basketball coaches.
I don't think we need to just blame the basketball coaches. I am a basketball coach and I don't like this at all but I know our school wasn't asked at all about any of this. I was as surprised as everyone else.

It seems to be set up similar to how UIL does 6A playoffs. You find out who will be a playoff “qualifier” then break them into the brackets based on enrollment.
I plan on working out the bracket plan for 26-28 on 25 and see how it plays out soon (I'm busy prepping to announce NXR in College Station tomorrow), and once I think it through, I'll probably reach out to Bryan Bunselmeyer with questions. Unless it is something he isn't entitled to share, he usually does.

I thought a little bit about it while out at games in Rockdale and Bryan yesterday, but I would think that if the organization has come up with this plan they've already given some thought as to whether it will be a "wildcard playing on the road at a district champion", but just that they haven't fleshed it all out.

Coach, I agree. I believe it would be by enrollment - as I mentioned earlier (but is that last realignment number or is it an updated snapshot number). Latter is public, former is not (unless the organization decides to publish it).
