2026-2028 TAPPS Alignment

I'm living out in Louisiana and my son is in a private school here where they participate in the Mississippi private school league. Then put a new PowerPoint system for playoffs and perhaps this could be used for a wild card system. Granted it can get a little muddled and confusing and you even had the instance of a team that threw a game to get into a lower bracket this year but you know. Nothing is perfect!

Tapps never gets it right IMO when it comes to thinking about the kids, Most leagues don't.. .. I said it as a player back in the day while playing in TAPPS at Duncanville Christway, I said it while coaching at Dallas Lutheran... It has NEVER been about the kids!!!

I’m still not crazy about loosing a round of the playoffs and kids missing an opportunity to practice over Thanksgiving break, but I can get behind the new system more with the release of the bracket information. Unless I missed it I didn’t see a clarification on what constitutes “big” school vs “small” school. I’d imagine that’s where the 1A and 2A will break off. It would have gone a long way had they released the bracket document at the same time as the calendar drop. 16 teams making it out of D3 was a big sticking point for me so I’m glad that still happens.

Having talked to some folks, it seems TAPPS didn’t poll every school for this, which I think is a mistake. This should have had more input because right now on the surface, it looks like they are placating to the basketball coaches.
I don't think we need to just blame the basketball coaches. I am a basketball coach and I don't like this at all but I know our school wasn't asked at all about any of this. I was as surprised as everyone else.

I agree Coach. From what I’m hearing it was a certain group that was consulted with not a group as a whole. I should have phrased it better.

It seems to be set up similar to how UIL does 6A playoffs. You find out who will be a playoff “qualifier” then break them into the brackets based on enrollment.
I plan on working out the bracket plan for 26-28 on 25 and see how it plays out soon (I'm busy prepping to announce NXR in College Station tomorrow), and once I think it through, I'll probably reach out to Bryan Bunselmeyer with questions. Unless it is something he isn't entitled to share, he usually does.

I thought a little bit about it while out at games in Rockdale and Bryan yesterday, but I would think that if the organization has come up with this plan they've already given some thought as to whether it will be a "wildcard playing on the road at a district champion", but just that they haven't fleshed it all out.

Coach, I agree. I believe it would be by enrollment - as I mentioned earlier (but is that last realignment number or is it an updated snapshot number). Latter is public, former is not (unless the organization decides to publish it).

What I've done below is to apply the 2026-2028 bracket plan to 2025.
TAPPS had actually calculated wildcard points for Division II and Division III; therefore, I had to calculate my own for Division I.
So to get a three week playoff cycle, TAPPS will now have five six-man championships instead of three.
There's no loss of teams in Division III (which I'll add as a separate post), and there's a net loss of four teams between Divisions I and II -- 28 this year, 24 next year.

Since there were five districts in Division II instead of the four next year, I included first and second place team from each district and reduced the number of teams via wildcard points from eight (8) to six (6).

The numbers to the right of the school is the enrollment number that was determined for the 2024-2026 realignment cycle.

Division I - Top two in each district - 8 teams
Waco Vanguard College Prep (District 1-1) - 183
Plano Coram Deo Academy (District 1-2) - 144
Austin Veritas Academy (District 2-1) - 176
Austin Texas School for the Deaf (District 2-2) - 134
The Christian School at Castle Hills (District 3-1) - 156
San Antonio Saint Mary's Hall (District 3-2) - 261
Pasadena First Baptist Christian Academy (District 4-1) - 159
Houston Emery/Weiner School (District 4-2) - 348

Division II - Top two in each district (5 districts in 2025 will compress to 4 in 2026) - 10 teams
Crowley Nazarene Christian Academy (District 1-1) - 93
Fort Worth Covenant Classical School (District 1-2) - 128
Prosper Prestonwood Christian Academy North (District 2-1) - 84
Red Oak Ovilla Christian School (District 2-2) - 98
Rockwall Heritage Christian Academy (District 3-1) - 107
Lucas Christian Academy (District 3-2) - 130
Faith Academy of Marble Falls (District 4-1) - 122
Bulverde Bracken Christian School (District 4-2) - 93
Huntsville Alpha Omega Academy (District 5-1) - 111
Beaumont Legacy Christian Academy (District 5-2) - 85

Top 8 in wildcard points (used 6 for 2025 since we're considering five districts instead of four) - 6 teams
Carrollton Prince of Peace Christian School - 23 wildcard points - 199

Abilene Christian School - 26 wildcard points - 116
Wylie Preparatory Academy - 21 wildcard points - 101
Keller Harvest Christian Academy - 19 wildcard points - 86
Decatur Victory Christian Academy - 17 wildcard points - Unknown
San Antonio Lutheran - 16 wildcard points - 122

Teams In The Playoffs in 2025, Not in if you applied the 2026 Plan
Round Rock Christian Academy (District 2-3)
Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy (District 3-3)
Sugar Land Logos Preparatory Academy (District 4-3)

Bryan Allen Academy (District 5-3)

Then if you grouped the teams by enrollment, this is how the large, medium and small school would break out:

Division I/II, Large School
Houston Emery/Weiner School (District 4-2) - 348
San Antonio Saint Mary's Hall (District 3-2) - 261
Carrollton Prince of Peace Christian School - 23 wildcard points - 199
Waco Vanguard College Prep (District 1-1) - 183
Austin Veritas Academy (District 2-1) - 176
Pasadena First Baptist Christian Academy (District 4-1) - 159
The Christian School at Castle Hills (District 3-1) - 156
Plano Coram Deo Academy (District 1-2) - 144

Division I/II, Medium School
Austin Texas School for the Deaf (District 2-2) - 134
Lucas Christian Academy (District 3-2) - 130
Fort Worth Covenant Classical School (District 1-2) - 128
Faith Academy of Marble Falls (District 4-1) - 122
San Antonio Lutheran - 16 wildcard points - 122
Abilene Christian School - 26 wildcard points - 116
Huntsville Alpha Omega Academy (District 5-1) - 111
Rockwall Heritage Christian Academy (District 3-1) - 107

Division I/II, Small School
Wylie Preparatory Academy - 21 wildcard points - 101
Red Oak Ovilla Christian School (District 2-2) - 98
Crowley Nazarene Christian Academy (District 1-1) - 93
Bulverde Bracken Christian School (District 4-2) - 93
Keller Harvest Christian Academy - 19 wildcard points - 86
Beaumont Legacy Christian Academy (District 5-2) - 85
Prosper Prestonwood Christian Academy North (District 2-1) - 84
Decatur Victory Christian Academy - 17 wildcard points - Unknown (they were last team listed in 2024-2026 in 2A. They're 2026-2028 number is 78.)

Division III

Four teams with the most wildcard points - 4 teams

Midland Holy Cross Catholic - 16 points - 71
Amarillo San Jacinto Christian Academy - 14 points - 75
Baytown Christian Academy - 13 points - 52

Under the 2026 bracket plan, only Memorial Second Baptist University Model (District 5-3) would not have made it, but would have been replaced by Baytown Christian Academy.

Then, based on the only enrollment numbers that we have, if they were grouped that way, this is what the two divisions would look like:
Division III, Large Schools
Lake Jackson Brazosport Christian School (District 6-1) - 77
Amarillo San Jacinto Christian Academy - 14 points - 75
