1A vs 2A

After watching this state championship game today between Bremond and Albany, I feel like Crowell could compete with those teams. I've always wanted to see the sixman state champ take on the 1a/2a champ the way Throck did Windthorst. How do y'all think Crowell would stack up against these teams?

Crowell (and a handful of 1A schools) would beat many 2A schools at the 6-man game but when you move into 11-man things would change drastically. Bremond and Albany would likely demolish any six-man team if they played a game in the 11-man format. The two formats are similar in many ways but when when you boil it down they really are different sports.

I just want to say the gap between 1a and 2a and even 3a isn't as big as most people believe. They may have more good athletes but stride per stride our best vs their best would be a great game. I know hand and hand, because i used to go out play with a powerhouse 2a which is now a 3a (Rogers if any follows crowded field) and I could go head to head with their better players, and I know plenty of six man players better then I was.

I don't know I think Crowell could compete with both Bremond and Albany at the 11-man game. Neither one of those teams had a passing attack. All Crowell would have to do is stack the line to stop the run. I think those two teams would have a hard time stopping Crowells passing attack. That's another thing to I believe the gap from 6man to 4a isn't that big of a difference. I think our best athletes could go stack up against theirs. I mean during my playing days I transferred to a 2a/3a and we went three rounds deep. We eventually ran into the team that made state. I had to cover their best athlete who is now in the nfl and I was thinking the whole game he has nothing on some of the best players I faced in 6-man.

There are a number of 6-man players that would fare well in 11-man, even at the higher classifications. In 2009 we (private 6-man TAPPS school) had a kid that was a backup his freshman year on a pretty average team. He transferred to a 5a DISD school the following year, did not play football his Soph/Jr years (to focus on baseball), and his Sr year went back out for football & was an all-district TE on a 5a district champion team. There are quality football players at the 6-man schools, many crowded-field people & college recruiters just haven't figured it out yet.

We just need to get a kid in at D1 school and he needs to stand out. Like how James Washington from Stamford is doing at OkState and Regional Davis from Tenaha at Texas Tech are doing, both from 2a schools. Then I believe we will get a little more respect. Also if 6man athletes want to get recruited by the D1 schools they have to show out in track not just the football field. Coaches are looking for speed and that's one thing track does is show true speed.

I think the skill positions match up well.. But it seems like most 11-man teams have some monsters up front, which I don't think six-man has very many of, although there are some. I think a fair comparison would be to combine two six man teams and use their rosters to compare with a 2a team

They also need to be an academic leader and not a troublemaker. No D1 school wants me type player. That and size rules out most players.

Academics is the most important thing for a student or student/athlete, but come on man have you heard some of these college players speak at a press conference? Most of them sound like they never set foot in a classroom or school. All college coaches care bout academically is that you can score a high enough sat/act to get in their school.

Ive heard interviews like that. Its kinda funny. I was just stating what i read in an article about what coaches want in a player.

After watching those Saturday games and looking at all of that talent sitting and standing on the sidelines, I began to wonder, just why can't a few of those unused and unappreciated athletes move out to our small schools who have trouble fielding 10 to 12 players. Every one would be a starter!

How much of that talent that is standing around is the result of environment or program?
It's about coaching, numbers and money. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the cost per participant of class A & 6A.
If you devoted the same amount in facilities, money, coaches, etc. to let's say White Deer as is devoted to Southlake Carroll, what would the results be?
I'm not saying that natural talent is not part of the equation but so many other factors enter in that tilt the scales...............

It only takes six good kids. It would help to have nine or ten good kids. You guys at RS, just keep trolling for those athletic foster kids, ya'll are doing just fine by most standards.

All you need is to have Michael Dell come build a facility in your little 6 Man town, but then on re-classification you would be a 4A town. And getting your butt kicked again. Oh well...............
