18 points allowed on the season

My son graduated from PCA North (TAPPS) in 2024. They were dominant on both sides of the ball. On defense, they gave up 195 points total in 12 games. I've been following this year's PCA North team because we still have friends playing and they are 8-0, only surrendering 18 points total. That's mind boggling in 6 man. They outscored their district opponents 190-0.

Now...the question is whether they are that good or if their opponents are really bad. I think it's a lot of the former and a little of the latter. They are incredibly athletic. They have 9-10 kids who can all run and they all like to hit. They do make mistakes though and have been helped by some drops. I think of it like facing a great pitcher. He's going to make a few mistakes so you've got to take advantage of it when it happens, and so far their opponents haven't done that. A couple of teams they played in non-district weren't nearly as good as they had been in the past. They've faced a couple of opponents who came into the game thinking they were tough and by the end of Q1, they were taking dives and running OOB to avoid getting hit. So far, every game has been a cakewalk. When you look at the other scores of the teams they dismantled, it seems like they're a heavy favorite to win state this year. It will be very interesting to watch them in the playoffs and see how they respond if/when they get hit in the mouth.

I wish there was a way for them to play the state championship team from fall '23. This year's team is probably more athletic top to bottom, but the state team had overall better football players. The state team had 3 years playing together to build chemistry. The offense was way more polished and the defense more disciplined. This year's team is like a pack of young, hungry dogs. They play really hard. The state team had an alpha. This year's team doesn't, which I think could be a good thing. If any player goes down, the ball keeps rolling. I'm not sure that's been the case the last few years.

I know most of you guys are UIL guys, and I've always wished there were more games between TAPPS and UIL teams. If you ever have the opportunity, check out what PCA North is doing this year. They're fun to watch.

Their first playoff game showed breaks in the dam. The secondary is a mess. Their safeties get caught looking into the backfield over and over. I don’t know what the plan was last night. The LBs refused to come downhill to stop the run and the safeties let receivers behind them…and they never made a single adjustment. NCA really only ran 2-3 different plays over and over but why change anything if it’s working.

The embarrassing part is even as bad as the defense was, that game was winnable if coach doesn’t actively work against his own team. His kick off team is compromised of 5 kids who would never get on the field in meaningful situations. They gave up a TD and he runs them back out there again and they give up another one on the next kick.

At the end of the 1st half, PCA is inside the 5 yard line :51 left and 3 timeouts. Coach calls a timeout to stop the clock. WHY?!? Let the clock run. You’ve got plenty of time to score. He leaves :39 on the clock and NCA marches right down the field and scores with :01. Brain dead.

At the end of the game, PCA has it 1st & goal from the 3 with :45 left. NCA has 1 TO left. Take a freaking knee and force NCA to use their last TO. PCA scores on next play. Then they let receivers behind them on ensuing possession. NCA punches it in from the 5 yard line on final play…on a play where 3 of PCAs best defenders weren’t on the field.

Kudos to NCA. Cristian Adams was fantastic. It’s a shame that the PCA coaching staff continues to give games away. They’ve had more than enough talent the last 4 seasons to win state and they’ve only come away with 1 trophy. It’s a running joke among the fans at this point. Clock management is the worst I’ve ever seen. At this point, I don’t think he even knows the rules. Last year they got the ball back with 1:40 and the other team had no timeouts. Instead of taking a knee, he ran two sweeps OOB. They converted a 4th down but shouldn’t have had to. If there’s a way to lose a winnable game, they’ll find it.

With supporters like you there I bet there are all kinds of great coaches lining up for that job. Why not hire one of them? If I was a coach and knew fans were joking about my coaching I'd do stuff like this on purpose and just laugh every time I cashed my check.

I’ve given all I needed to the program. I don’t owe them anything else. The PCA job is one of the best in TAPPS. The resources and athletes available are second to none.

Y’all asked what happened. I told you. Sorry if that hurts y’all’s feelings.

Prestonwood north just hasn’t been the same since that stud WR they had graduated
You’re not wrong…but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are plenty of talented athletes remaining. Something is definitely missing. I thought this years team had what it took. Their immaturity hurt them at times. There was one play in particular last night where they scored a long TD that got called back by a hold. After the kid scored, he spiked the ball, drawing a 15-yard flag. Then another kid got an unsportsmanlike flag. It went from a TD to 1st and 48. Championship teams don’t do stuff like that.

Sounds like a post from someone who got 45d by PCAN.
Try someone who’s seen how many kids are in that student section and thought “really they’re still D2?”

Also have genuine questions how enrollment even works for sister schools… I’m sure Plano NEVER sends down kids who aren’t quite gonna cut it for the big squad

LOL. The only student who ever played for North and Plano was my son who was never a student at Plano but was allowed to play down there until North had football of their own. Once North had varsity sports, nobody was allowed to play at the other campus. You guys are really stretching it looking for excuses. The school is growing, but the state championship team featured the 2nd senior class in school history which had 17 kids in it. Of the starters, all but 1 of them attended the school for at least 2 years before varsity sports were even available (I.e. home grown). Nobody is fudging numbers.

They’ve had very good teams and the school is clearly growing and doing things well! Not doubting that at all. Just observations brother, and I’m not the only one who’s had them.

I know. I’ve read them and it’s stupid. My son was one of, if not the best player(s) in all of TAPPS his senior year and lead his team to a championship in dominating fashion. Instead of that being the story, everyone is crying about enrollment and acting like the only reason we won is because we had 30 non athletic underclassmen on the sideline (who never saw any game action). There’s definitely a reason PCA has had so much success from the beginning but it’s not because of numbers. It’s because you had a special group of kids set a standard of excellence from day 1.

Two things can be true… 1. your son and his teammates were/are great competitors that started what has become a consistent winning program. 2. It’s not an excuse to see the amount of students at those events and wonder if the enrollment numbers that are being submitted are accurate.

Still happening in TAPPS 20 years later I see. Well conversely in 11 man you have 5-6a schools dressing out only 15 or 16 yet they have an enrollment of 3k kids. I know some schools have a requirement where if you participate in one sport you have to participate in all. Which is why some schools have higher roster numbers. Granted idk all of the new rules and if TAPPS ever looked into that.there. My point being numbers can make a difference but not always. Pasadena Faith had like 30 total players in 02,03 and still couldn't win it all. Nobody pays attention when you aren't winning.

Well…the numbers presented to TAPPS are accurate and PCA has moved up in each realignment, so they’re playing by the rules. Enrollment numbers had nothing to do with their championship in ‘23. I don’t follow as closely this year so I don’t know to what extent numbers had an impact. I do know several kids who have never played football before decided to play together for their senior year. Stuff like that happens a lot at PCA because of their sense of community. There is a very high participation rate. Likewise, the student section in the stands is packed because everyone attends the games. A lot of those kids aren’t even in HS yet. The principal is the best in the business when it comes to student engagement.

It’s always laughable to hear who the crybabies are. It always seems to be the guys who got their butts kicked by the team they’re criticizing. A couple of years ago it was coming from a coach whose teams were known around the state for playing dirty. I don’t care if people ask the question but once they get the answer and still complain about it without any evidence to the contrary, they’re either dumb or full of sour grapes.
