When is optimism blinding?

Is seeing the best in everything really an odd quality? I constantly get questioned on my optimism and I truly believe I would rather see the best in people and expect greatness, than expect something negative to hit me in the face. I would rather take a chance and get let down, than to never believe that something good will happen. Is this really that odd?

In a way pessimism is a cop out.... If you always expect the worst in situations, the odds are pretty good you'll never face disappointment.
Disappointment is inevitable in life. It's not a bad thing and how it is handled determines how we are perceived by others.
On the whole I would prefer to be associated with optimists rather than pessimists and hope you never lose that outlook.

I would just rather be let down than expect mediocrity. I love all my assistants and have always supported them during and after their tenure. The best sign of a great administrator is preparing them to be one. I try my best to make sure every coach that comes through is better prepared than when they started. My optimism believes they'll all commit to a minimum of three years, but that doesn't always work out. I'm not opposed to assistants coming in, wanting to learn, so that one day they can be a head coach. A driven individual is a positive, not a negative. It's my job to steer their drive in the direction most beneficial to the program. I feel the same way about the kids. I want everyone to work hard and believe they deserve to start. If they're satisfied with second string, they lack the motivation needed to be successful in life, much less football.

A pissimist is just an optimist with experience....

I think a realist is the be way to be...
A "pissimist" is someone who sprinkles when they tinkle.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Saw this sign once.
"If you sprinkle when you tinkle
be a sweetie wipe the seatie"
