Water Valley vs. Sterling City

WV Backer

Six-man pro
Well, does anyone think the Eagles can pull off the upset or are they just fodder for the winner of the Rankin/Garden City game?

I tend to agree with you OBK but Sterling City typically gives Water Valley problems. Last year they were keeping pace until their RB (Hinderliter) went down and this year they play in SC. Still, I think the WV ends up covering the spread.

I have faith that WV will take care of bidness with SC. District Championship on the line and get that 40-0 regular season record. My hopes are that WV will peak at the right time and can go much deeper in the playoffs this year. We're not ready to play that other sport!!!

GO WILDCATS!!!

Sterling City does have a history of doing that, especially to GC. Several times in the past, GC was clearly the superior team and SC would rise up and ambush them. 1968 was a really good example of this.

Sounds like that one still bothers you a bit there, OBK. You're not still mad at those darn Eagles are you? C'mon you're tough, rub some dirt on it and walk it off. :-)

Not me, I was in the 6th grade that year, but I had 2 uncles and a cousin on the team that year who are still bothered. SC won only 4 games that year, 3 of them district games. Cotton Center clobbered the crap out of them in the playoffs.

Hey, you ought to show up at my next family reunion, I'll introduce you to a couple of guys who played for GC in 1958 when Water Valley won their only district game by upsetting GC and eliminating them from being a bi-district sacrificial victim for Borden County. It turned the district from a 3 way tie between Forsan, GC and Mertzon that GC had the upper hand on to a 2 way tie between Mertzon and Forsan that Mertzon had the upper hand on.

Man I don't know about going to an OBK family reunion. Them St. Lawrence cotton-pickers might just take their long-simmering 1958 frustration out on a WV Backer.

None of my relatives were St. Lawrence types, even though I did grow up out there. They were all dryland farmers in the Northwestern part of the county. Besides, the 1958 team uncles/cousins are getting on in years and might have to use their canes/walkers to beat you to death.....

What a difference a year makes. Last year this WV vs. SC thread had 17 replies and 1666 views. This year, not so much.

Nice observation. I like this year much better. Big Stick ideology!

Last year that guy from Sterling City was always making the great photoshop posts. That always drew a LOT of views and replies.

Wonder where he disappeared to?
