Water Valley Playoffs

A quick look at the brackets shows the winner of district 8 vs. the district 7 runner-up in a first round match-up. Assuming that the Wildcats win out (I know, I know, it's an ASSUMPTION! I don't need any "chickens before they hatch" admonishments) they would likely end up with a tough game against Ft. Davis. Of course, that's providing Rankin takes care of business like I think they should. Assuming (there's that word again) they get by Ft. Davis they would face an exceptionally difficult opponent in the winner of the district 5 vs. the district 6 runner-up. You're probably looking at Ira vs. Sands there but it could very well be Borden County. Any of those three would be stiff competition but Water Valley does hold a victory over Sands in it's back pocket. Ira is ranked number one but I believe either Sands or BC could beat them on any given night. There you have it, a very non-committal commentary on what could possibly happen in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Here's the way I see it playing out... WV takes out Ft. Davis in a hard fought West Texas slugfest. Then they defeat the Bulldogs of Ira in a wild one and continue to march on to the Division 1 Six-Man Football state championship! Now you may start with the "chickens before they hatch" admonishments.

YOU CALL THAT AN ADMONISHMENT?! C'mon Smokey, you can do better than that! You're supposed to tell me how stupid I am for even thinking that far in advance and how one injury can turn the whole season around and... well you know, all that other stuff.

No admon@*$#&! here... heck i can't even spell that word. I agree with Backer... but I could be a little biased. I do however... feel sorry for those eggs.

GO WILDCATS!

You need to say something about Angelo refugees moving in.....

C'mon OBK, you're just jealous that the St. Lawrence refugees don't have the same impact on GC.

Fan in Black, I'm just saying what we're all thinking. We're all cautiously optimistic about this years' team and we don't want to jinx things by getting ahead of ourselves but I really think these kids can make some noise in the playoffs.

If it weren't for St. Lawrence, GC would not have much of a school. I would bet more than half the kids are from the southern part of the county.

This sounds to me like your getting ahead yourselves a little, or maybe alot, I guess wishful thinking never hurt anyone, but dont count out Ira just yet, your in for a very big surprise with the Bulldog team, I know WV is got it togather this year but your not giving much credit to the Dogs.... or the Coyotes for that matter... and also a very solid Hornet team as well. Only thing I can say is dont count anyone out this year, I guarantee there will be alot of surprises

i think we should go ahead and give WV the state trophy!!!! because if they don't win it there's gonna be some real cryin goin on down there north of san angelo. the best team ever to step on the field, strap on a helmet, or lace up their cleats. GO WILDCATS

Heck, I can't tell if quentin70 is chastising or agreeing with me but I'm pretty sure that ryry doesn't understand the tongue in cheek nature of the quoted post. Oh well, you can't please everyone. Don't worry ryry, I'm sure Coach Owens won't let the players get ahead of themselves and, really, isn't that all that matters? Nobody in Water Valley is looking past Ira, Borden County, Sands, Ft. Davis, Rankin or whichever Hornet team you are referring to. You're right about one thing though, you can't count anyone out this year.

All BS aside there are some great teams and I cant wait to see how it plays out. Aspermont is the team I was referring to. Good luck to all

regardless of whoever ends up in Abilene, there will be several state caliber games right here in west texas. By the time the real state game gets here we will have witnessed a much better match up, than what the real state game will be, in a regular playoff game for the second year in a row.
