UIL Officially Announces Shotwell as 2012 Championship Site

Mr Jones that owns the Cowboys could certainly put in a carpet for Six-Man if he wanted to. It would probably mean playing the game on Monday or Tuesday if coupled with the other playoff games. Don't think he would do it the week before. He likes making money.

The deal on the coaching clinic being held in Lubbock is just what HPD posted, poor Abilene can not match the money the Association gets in Lubbock. Lubbock does a really good job with putting on the clinic. Much better than Abilene could ever do. I guess poor Abilene will just have to settle for hosting the state games for now.

The only folks I know that have a real problem with playing in Abilene are Richland Springs people or supporters of the Coyotes. Stems from the fact that Abilene will not let fans down on the turf after the games. They request fans go to the South end of the stadium near the dressing rooms to celebrate with their teams. Now that Abilene has put down a new surface prior to this season I doubt they will relax their standards for anyone including the Richland Springs Coyotes. That is a good enough reason I guess to dislike Shotwell. Otherwise seems like a decent place to play.

Still, everyone is welcome to come to Shotwell on December 15th. Maybe Cowboy Stadium next year. The Sun Bowl in El Paso or Maybe Follett or McAllen or maybe High Island or Karnack would be better places although Abilene seems to be a little more centrally located even if they are a lot more narrow minded.

As long as I have my health, I reckon I would go just about anywhere to see the championship games as I am accustomed to driving great distances to watch Six-Man but I have to admit it is nice driving a few blocks as opposed to driving a few hundred miles.

I just hope the UIL continues to like Abilene.

??????????????????????????????????

How did this turn into a Richland Springs deal ? Someone seems a might touchy !!

Don - buy the guy some flowers, send some candy, get him a hot dog (maybe 2 or 3) at an RS game or maybe get him tranquilizers.

Some people just live in the world of "reality distortion" and bend or misperceive everything.

Now back to the facts - 6 man State Championships at Shotwell - all others at Cowboy Stadium.

Did I offend anybody ? Maybe everyone that is not going to the playoffs.

It's NOT an RS thing, Don brought it up. And will try to promise never to use that nasty, dirty, stanky word again............Richland Springs.
SO I get the last word. End of subjust, let's move on!

So.........I can't wait to visit the beautiful & warm city of Abilene! As a matter of fact, I'm headed their today to do a little shopping.

How could anyone consider it that ? The only negative thing one might be accused of feeling would be envy for what they have accomplished in recent years.

Well, I'm still a little mad at Jared Hicks and the rest of 'em for stomping my Wildcats 45-0 in the first round of the playoffs in 2003 but it's starting to fade a little bit. The nervous tick that I developed after that game is not so noticable any more.

I am a Richland Springs Coyotes fan, and have been to the Shotwell Stadium for all the games played there. It may not be a "Cowboys'" stadium, but it is a heck of a lot better than some. Sixman football is always going to be the last in line for the nice things, so we take what we can get. I don't blame the Bill O'Reilly fan for wanting something better, but don't lump all R.S. fans together as being dissatisfied. It is the result of the game that matters, not just where it is played.

Here are some places that would be good for the championship game I thought I'd list. Just fun to think.

Ratliff Stadium- Odessa Permian. The history of the stadium, and how amazing it is.
Homer Bryce Field- Stephen F. Austin State. Amazing stadium and the stands are good for the crowd.
Memorial Stadium- Midwestern State University. Good central location and good facility.
Cowboys Stadium- :)
Panther Field- Midlothian High School- Probably the nicest high school football stadium I've ever seen.

I think an indoor venue would be very nice, I'm not to sure about the demensions of a indoor teams field though.

Doing a quick check, there are some removable paints for artificial turf. (there had to be a way for the NFL to do all those kickoff, futbol americano, and other logos without having turf made and replaced) Maybe UIL can invest a couple of bucks into this for the sixman title game.

Just repainting the sidelines and goal lines in a contrasting color would be helpful.

You know better than to think those money-grubbing politicians at the UIL would spend a few hundred $ to do a six man game right.

(I almost used the term "prostitutes" to describe the powers that be in the UIL. I reckon politicians is similar enough and has more meaning to describe someone who would do anything for money.)

Backer,
you are right about limiting the choices. we need them limited.. mistakes are made it seems in every game i have seen that is played on an incorrect field. these young men work their butts off for the chance of making the playoffs and state game but their effort is undermined for money. we have a great grass field , many schools have great turf fields. our stands, concessions, bathrooms, anouncing booth, and pa system is very good. and i know there are other turf schools that have the same.

If Zephyr is that close, why not play it at Zephyr?

We want: nice fields. Got it at Zephyr. Nice Facilities. Got it at Zephyr. And is Zephyr makes State, lets hitch a ride to Blackwell:)

We want to play on a six man field. Let's play on a Six-Man field.

The stadium capacity of Zephyr is listed as 1500. That is not big enough. Other than that, I agree that Zephyr would be ideal. I say bring in some temporary bleachers and increase the seating capacity and it would be prime.
