I love the fact they are being played in Abilene AGAIN! Here is a little known fact. I am happy it is Abilene. I really kind of like Shotwell. I would not mind Wylie or H-SU or McM or Elmer Gray on ACU. In fact the old Walmart parking lot on Judge Ely is fine my me.

I am glad the "suspense" is over. I contacted the UIL at least two months ago asking where the gmes would be played and I told them I hoped it would be Abilene. What I was told was they hoped to have a decision made by the time school started. They also stated they liked Abilene. You just never know until you know. Kind of like watching Six-Man. You really don't know how good a game will be until it has been played.

If you like Abilene or not or if you like Shotwell or not the fact remains Shotwell Stadium in Abilene will host the 2012 Six-Man State Championship game on December 15th.

I think they should be played at Abilene Wylie's Bulldog Stadium!
Much more classy facility!!
I just feel dirty everytime I leave the Shotwell!!
Good luck with that. IMO the closest a sixman team will ever get to bulldog stadium is driving by it on Antilly rd. The majority of the Wylie folks would be the ones feeling dirty afterwards. I'm sure they would want the placed deloused and the pastor from the local mega-church bless it afterwards. Not to mention all those podunks driving through would lower their property values and God forbid if any Wylie folks have to eat at the same place at the same time as the fans.
I wont say it will never happen, but I'd be really surprised.

The UIL should share the wealth and bring it back to San Angelo now and then. It's a cinch the stadium won't be booked by any of the local San Angelo teams at that time of the year. :-)

Abilene is fine but this year I hope they mark the field like a championship field should be marked, Like get rid of the crowded field sidelines and the extra endzone areas, these young men deserve better than what they have been getting.

I agree. The teams that earn the right to play for the title deserve a field without crowded field markings.

Great you combined these Granger. It was my bad. I looked for a thread when I made my post and did not see one. I am very sorry that I started a second thread about the subject.

As long as it is on turf, you will have to put up with the "crowded field" markings. As to having it in San Angelo, think that would be great but the teams would have to bring their own water or dip it out of the lily ponds. San Angelo is not going to get off their duffs to try to land anything like this. They have or had one guy and he was too lazy to pitch for it when it was all going down. Glad it is streamed so I can sit and watch it at home.

In addition, played a state game at Wylie in 94. They had us dress in equipment shed. Had to put 5 yard lines on the field before the game. Also played in Sweetwater and they did it right, great, great memory. Just saying

Glad it is streamed so I can sit and watch it at home.

Speaking of streaming, have you checked out the good work Larry Martinez is doing at sixmanmagazine.com. The games or not streamed live but he does get a game of the week online by Saturday morning. I just watched Rankin and Meadow.

The only way to get that done on turf would be to have the game on a 6-man field like Zephyr or Trent or Blackwell. But then you have issues with size of the bleachers and parking.

I am torn on this one.
Shotwell has a great football history. I was a kid in Abilene in the 70s and I got to play in shotwell for the city "pigskin preview" of the elementary school teams. So many people have good (and bad ) football memories there.

On the other hand- All the other levels get to play in Jerry world. Wouldnt the boys rather get the once in a lifetime chance to play there?

Sooo... does that mean you have your doubts about San Angelo landing the Championship games anytime soon? Why couldn't the teams drink radiation water like the rest of us? Oh, I get it - treat your out-of-town guests to the good stuff straight out of the... uh, nevermind. Yeah, maybe Abilene is a better spot for the Championshp.
