Trashiest fans in the state?

Not necessarilly trashy, but definitely funny. At a recent game, one of the fans on the opposing side seemed to get rather disgruntled when we cheered for our boys. The more we cheered, the madder she got. To the point of name calling, not at the boys, but at us, the fans. To make matters worse, she had a megaphone, so it was loud and clear. Some of our fans got a little sideways about it, but I thought it was rather amusing, it was the first time I had ever seen that approach to cheering on your team.

Godsmightywarrior its funny you said that cause even though its not the fan base everytime ive watched a private/public school game the church schools players and coaching staff have been pretty bad. The last one I watched some of the coaches were cussing the opposing teams players when they got tackled on their sideline.

Really? WOW, I've never seen that. I hope I never do.

There is one school I am surprised hasn't been named either...I have always heard stories about (never played them myself or attended one of their games)

I must chime in on the private schoolers comment...when I was playing...in the 4 years of HS the one team we played that the players had the trashiest mouths was a private school...and we played Loraine and Novice! And we played Happy Hill once and one of their players cussed out his own coach during a time out on the sideline...now the Happy Hill players were nice to us but man they laid into their own coach!

In full disclosure...I was very loud in yelling at refs during my sisters basketball games for Blackwell...never the other players or coaches but the refs yes. During a timeout I was yelling at one ref telling her to retire because she was blind...she almost ran me!

IN THE PAST Blackwell fans could be loud and abusive to refs...and their OWN PLAYERS/KIDS...but I don't remember them ever being that way to opposing players. I think I missed a block or tackle once against Highland in 1998 at Highland and I was coming off the field and I remember one of our own fans yelling about how horrible a player I was (we were losing and did lose that game)...that is one of the only times I remember ever hearing someone watching the game yelling when I played...we turned that stuff out...to wrapped up in the game.

Playing little league one year we played Pecos at Pecos and their fans were pretty rough! And drunk! Backed up to the outfield fence and tailgating and listening to the game on the radio...yes a little league game!

not really trash but certainly unsportsmanlike - several years ago we were playing Castle Hills Baptist (San Antonio) in basketball - we were getting beat bad - losing by 70 plus points and we deserved to lose we were just outclassed - have no issue with that - but when the other coach is allowing a full court press when he is up by 70+ I have an issue with that and I was being loud in my complaint - to the point that a ref came over and asked me if there was a problem and I told no that he and his partner were doing a great job but I had an issue with the other coach ( by the way I was just a spectator ) the ref just nodded and walked away

Winning is very important but in a case like I just described there is a great oppurtunity for a coach to teach some valuable life lessons

Abbott not trashy at all,,but the house on the north end zone divided by
the barbed wire fence, sure was fun,if they liked you,you were welcome
to be a part,,if they didnt like you ,you were out,,,They always liked me..
Oh the good ol days..

Us being in only our second year we haven't had to face to many if any trashy fans. I fact I got to give props to the fans from Sydney for the way we were treated when we played them this year. With that said I did have a run in with a member of the chain gang last year. We were playing away and it was one of those games where nothing was going right. At half time one of my dads calls me over and tells me every time my qb comes over the down marker guy is listening and then pulling out his phone. Now I don't what this guy is doing and I am not going to accuse him of anything, but I decided to see if this is true. So on around the 3rd play after the half sure enough this guy pulls out his phone and starts to what I guess is text. So I called a t.o walked over to him and told him (in language that would my Navy captain father blush) that I don't know what doing but if I see you pull your phone out one more time he would not leave the stadium walking and told the distance guys the same thing. I probably shouldn't have cussed him and I told the HC/AD that I was sorry and if the school called I would apologize but nothing ever happened. I guess he got the message.

Is it not againest TAPPS rules to use a megaphone?

From the TAPPS Bylaws:

In events held in field houses/gyms, megaphones may be used only by cheerleaders, in uniform. Megaphones must not be used to strike walls or playing surfaces.

Full rule:

http://tapps.net/PDF/Constitution/Athle ... vities.pdf

PS ... I've seen some poorly behaved fans at some of us church schools ... although it's easier to see it by the other side's fans, I've seen it among our own. In fact, I remember a Lifegate basketball game a number of years ago where one of our own students called out a number of parents during a game for their poor behavior.

Like I heard once, if you built your church for the sinless, you probably bought too many chairs.

The best way to deal with fan misbehavior is having strong game adminstrators who are willing to stand up to the bullies in the stands. Oh, and it doesn't help if you can have a guy wearing a police uniform or carrying a sheriff's badge walking around the joint, either. It makes people act a little better.

Did anyone here play against Three Way in the late '80s?

Not the 80's but in the early 70's their field was absolutely the worst in our 8 man district. Full of grass burrs and goatheads and as hard and uneven as a washboarded caliche road. It took me a month to get all the burr spines out of my fingers. I was too busy playing to notice how their fans were doing.

While I wouldn't label them trashy, but definitely lacking any sportsmanship, a couple of families from Houston Beren. And you could throw some of the administration in with them.

They came to our place one year and the fight started when I was on the sideline. The benches cleared and on my way out to the fight Coach Maxwell horse collared me and very succiently made it very plain to me that I didn't want any part of what was going on out there. I believed him. He then proceeds out on the field to pull guys out of the fight and I assume give them the same 4 second speech. Them boys appeared to believe him too.

The only time when I was in HS I remember fans actually barking at us was when we went past their stands on our way to the locker room at halftime.

Never heard much from their fans, but they had a coach and some players who were a little much. The rule at Three Way was put your dads on your sideline along the "Death Fence" and run sweeps to that side and use dads to try to keep players from slinging your players into fence and dives to their side.

I remember playing in a couple games against Three Way myself. OFB and Drifter's comments are true, good times, good times. As far as OBK's comment on field conditions, Westbrook's field in early/mid 90's was horrible. I remember going for a TD against Westbrook and about the 20 yard line in mid field I stepped in a huge pot whole, sprained my ankle and missed the next weeks game too. I still believe to this day that they had strategically placed those pot wholes for that very reason. Memories, Memories :)

Westbrook had just brought back football then so their field was new I think...maybe that's why it was rough...worst field when I played (late 90s) was Lueders Avoca...worst fans Loraine...worst sportsmanship with players Novice and Loraine
