Top players in school history

Thanks Leman. You are right about Sharp and his name was Roy and to top it off the man can sing beautifully.lol. Hubert , Richard, and Gilbert Beaver were Bebo's older brothers and can't believe I forgot them! Did you mean to mention Knapp cause you mentioned Simpson twice.Knapp was 6-2 215 with 4.7 speed and was also all state linebacker besides rushing for over 1500 yards! Payne broke his leg his junior year and would have loved to have played Ft. Hancock with Knapp and Payne on the field. Forgot another great player from that team beaten by Hancock. Chris Jones was all state I think, but could be wrong. I remember that game vividly ,was played in Wink and was soooooo cold! Hancock had a kid whose name escapes me that went on to play for UTEP and their QB/Deep Back_(Aguilar?) was spot on amazing. The game was old school ,tight formation (Trent) vs new wave (Hancock) spread. The #2(Trent) vs #4(Hancock) teams in the state ,according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and Hancock put a big time whipping on the Gorillas 61-14. Trent moved the ball up and down the field but only scored twice. The next year Trent lost to a Jamie Humphries led Panther Creek team to finish 8-3. The Gorillas met two ,in my humble opinion, 6-man hall of fame QB/deep backs two years in a row or that group of kids would go down as one of the better 6-man groups of the 80's -90's. I was calling in results back then to the Abilene Reporter News and Lubbock papers and saw some really great football. Oh and one more thing...The assistant coach on those great Gorilla teams ,Ed Donahue, went on to take Vernon Northside to a state championship later on.
