Top 3 Programs

For the past 14 years which sixman programs have been the most dominant? These are the top 3 that come to my mind
1.Richland Springs- with a record of 174 wins and only 13 losses and 6 state championships this is a easy pick for number one!
2.Throckmorton- now I know Throck hasn't been sixman for fourteen years but ever since the move to sixman they have been nothing but dominant with 3 state titles.
3.Valley- they have compiled a pretty good record over these past 13 years reaching the title game twice and also reaching the semifinals twice.

Boy are you ever opening a can of worms! I could grudgingly agree with your first two. I would say that there could be several at least equal to your number 3. Strawn and Garden City come to mind immeadiatly. Both have been to the big game and won it. They didn't fizzle.

Well my intentions were to start off with 5 but top 3 just has a ring to it! I'm not trying to upset anybody just want to see who people thought were the top 3? I do agree there are several teams that could be in that third spot. The only thing is I was going off the records since 2000 to now. Valley may not have a state title like the other teams you mentioned but they haven't had a losing record in this thirteen year span. Garden City and Ira are very good teams but have had a couple of losing seasons during this time. The more I think about it I would probably put Calvert ahead of Valley. Calvert to me is probably one of the most unappreciated teams in sixman. Heck their worst record in this span was 6-6 and they reached the quarterfinals that year! So my new updated top three would be
1.RS
2.Throck
3.Calvert

If you go by championships you've got to go with Strawn, Garden City, or Borden County at #3. Strawn and Borden County went 2-1 in championship games since 2000 while Garden City went 2-0. I don't think anyone would have issue with your top 2 though; Richland Springs went 6-1 in that stretch and Throckmorton went 3-1.

Ira doesn't struggle, they just reload. They did finish 4-6 in 2005 but otherwise they have always been good in the 21st century.

I'll also go with a top 5

1. RS
2. Calvert (Under appreciated, always have been, always will be)
3. Strawn
4. Throck
5. Ira

Hon. Mention-Rule, Abbott, Valley

I don't think Calvert has been consistent enough to be mentioned in this conversation. Strawn has been more consistent than Calvert, with both winning rings since the millennium.

If you were going to make a list of the best teams to never win a ring, then Valley should be a consensus #1. I think they are the only team in D-1 to make the playoffs every year, and not win the last game of their season.

Everybody makes a good point but I was just referring from 2000 to now. The four teams that I've named haven't had a losing season in this time period. I know some teams have won some state titles during this time but haven't been as consistent as these four. Strawn has more titles and is a great program but I do think Calvert has been better during this time. Just look at lonestarfootball.net it shows that Calvert has more wins than loses than Strawn does.

I'm with Johnny Bravo on Strawn (and T-Rock) over Calvert in the top 3. Even though Calvert won 139 games in that stretch compared to 137 for T-Rock and 129 for Strawn; championships tilt the scale for me. Of course, those numbers are all put into perspective when you consider Richland Springs has won 174 games in the 21st century thus far. If you're just looking at victories since 2000...

Richland Springs - 174
Calvert - 139
Throckmorton - 137
Valley - 136
Ira - 132
Abbott - 131
Follett - 130
Strawn - 129
Garden City - 112
Whitharral - 112
Milford - 112
Borden County - 110
Meadow - 110
Highland - 110
Gordon - 106
Trinidad - 103
Zephyr - 100
Rankin - 98
Aquilla - 97

Just a partial list, don't hate on me if I left someone out.

Not to be critical of numbers and it doesn't change the top 3 (if I counted correctly)...
Valley 136
Ira 132 ( Ira was 12-1 in 2013, not sure what happened to the GC game from last season on Lonestar- it was too great of a game to be forgotten) :)

More fun: Of the top four teams listed, only Valley has made the D-1 playoffs every season since Y2K. If not the best, then at the very least, the most consistent.

Granted RS has been in the playoffs every year, but the last several years they have been in D-2. And T-Rock wasn't 6-man of any stripe at the turn of the millennium.

So there's that.
