Richland could hang with D1 teams as could other D2 teams. Is this the first time in history that a playoff team gets a bye week? I want to make this very clear, not Richland Springs' fault. No horse in the race btw. @Leman Saunders has this ever happened before?

I know for a few years in the late 1990s some districts pulled a first round bye...but that was by design not due to a district not sending someone...1998 is a year that I remember that had a couple 1st round byes

looking at that 1998 bracket they split districts up into different regions...crazy looking at that

ya in the 1940s I believe some districts didnt participate in the one round playoff so I would say it has happened but not in a very long time

some might be able to hang. But how may can actually compete for the title? If it’s such a great idea, why don’t these schools you speak of just opt up into d1 ?

If the UIL or Calvert knew of this situation becoming possible, given they had forfeited the previous week, would the UIL giving Brookesmith the playoffs spot be possible?

They are the only ones because Klondike went 0-3 against D1 schools
Teams also tend to get better by the end of the season. Klondike could compete. Jayton could play with Whiteface imo but no one is beating Gordon. Just saying it could be Jayton vs Gordon in the finals w I thought splits. Best isn't playing the best.

Jayton COULD beat Gordon. im not saying they would, just that they COULD

any team can lose on any given day. yes Gordon is good, but so is Jayton. i know cuz i saw jayton play this season and they were dominant
Gordon scores every possession and is dominant on defense. They'll win 2 more since they were all basically sophomores last season and 45d everyone they played. Way too much experience and talent on that team. After they're done with that group, could go down as the best 6man team ever imo.

True the best 2 teams are without much doubt Gordon and Jayton. But is that every year. Heck no! But by your thoughts maybe 3A D2 champion could beat 3A D1 champion. Would go as far to say it’s possible a 5A D1 Champion may very well beat the 6A State Champion and on and on etc……..With all due respect your idea is nonsense.

I'm talking 6man football. Nothing else. It's 2024 and we have a team with a bye week in D2. Again, not their fault. Why isn't buckholts the alternate? No split and this wouldn't be an issue.

I also looked and very quickly was able to determine that some of the higher ranked D2 teams faced off against higher rated D1 teams prior to district play. Without putting unnecessary time in to document it is clear the percentage of wins for the D1 teams was substantial.

How could you possibly know having only 1 division with no split would guarantee this didn’t happen. Would there not still be teams with low numbers, no pass no play, injuries, etc…unless your saying the smaller schools with lower enrollment wouldn’t have secured a playoff spot, and that would defeat your entire argument. This is a good discussion and nothing personal Techman32, just disagree. You graduate from TT? My son did during the Covid year and has done amazingly well. He credits the University with the success he is having. Great school!
