The Newest Six-Man Rivalry in Texas

This Friday the Weatherford Christian Lions will host the Mineral Wells Community Christian School Warriors in a TCAF District 1 showdown.
The Warriors (5-3) are coming off their bye week while the Lions (4-4) are coming off a tough loss to TCAF District 1 Champions, Azle Christian.
This will be the third year in a row the Warriors and Lions have played. Their first meeting was in 2008 in Weahtherford. The Lions won big 44 - 18. In 2009 the Warriors would take the Victory in Mineral Wells 35 - 28.
With both schools continuing to participate with TCAF this looks to be a yearly match up. Fridays game will be in Weatherford at the Hall Middle School.
More than bragging rights, a coveted playoff spot is at stake. Both teams have earned a right to the playoffs. However, in TCAF the top two teams in each District actually host the playoff game. The winner of Friday's game will be Second in the District and will host FW Glenview October 29Th while the loser will travel to St. Paul's Christian Academy in Arlington on the same night.

Having played both teams they will both leave it all on the field. These are two of the finest programs around with great coaches and athletes.

As for this years game.

Granger has MW CCS to win by 45 but that means nothing on any given Friday Night.

I expect a great game. The situation here is that the students at both schools know each other and compete in everything from Football to Drama each year. As adults we love to see the fact that while there is a rivalry, these students are all friends off the field. This is what it is all about.

And as a graduate of Mineral Wells High, I know what it means to play anyone from Weatherford in anything.

I did remind our players that in the midst of Strawn winning state a couple years back they had one loss. That loss was to Gordon. You get up to play certain games then you do others.

Expect a hard fought game from both teams. Both of these teams have been overcoming so much this year including sickness and injury.

Game is in Weatherford at the Hall Middle School at 7:30 PM Friday Night.

This should be an interesting game. I love Friday night football, and love getting our boys ready for each and every game, but these district games (rivalry games) have that added emotional factor. The last two games vs MWCCS have been dog fights to the end, including a near game tying touchdown by WCS last year, after being down 35-7 at halftime. Should be another barn burner this year as well.
