Stats

Whats your opinion on varsity teams playing JV teams? I know of some teams in the past and present that play JV teams and rack up big stats...then they count them for all-district and all-region stats and on the leader boards! I personally think if you play a JV all stats should be invalid towards varsity!

I have always thought they should count, but then everyone should be aware of the strength of the schedule you played. I mean if you played 2 JVs and racked up bunch of yards, is that any different than playing 2 really weak teams? If you have 300 less yards in 10 games but played several teams that reached the playoffs (not just the ones that beat you in district) then that should matter. <--- just an example

That was the basis behind my earlier question about Loraine. If they are playing at full strength, like the beginning of the year, before players were then held out as i understood prior to the Hermliegh game, or if they are just playing a JV squad against other JVs. The difference in the talent sends waves through the calculations and rankings for every opponent. Makes O'Donnell look tougher than thought if the whole squad was there.

I dont count them and never will...if it is the schools only team (Loraine in this example) and they played a school that has a Varsity and a JV and they play the JV team...I never count them because it isn't fair to other statistical leaders who have played only varsity schools. I know there are coaches out there that do and will count those stats and include them in their season stats for leader boards...is it fair...I say no

Stats are such a mixed bag in sixman in the first place. Are they reported somewhere I've never heard of on a state wide basis? Sometimes I see them in a local paper, sometimes it's just a game story or summary. I've never been aware that Coaches have to report them. I thought some do, maybe to toot heir own horn or try to intimidate and some don't to hide how good or bad they are. I wonder if some Coaches are never asked for them, the towns are so small most don't have a newspaper.
As everybody knows stats are a great thing but they can be misleading or not tell the whole story.
Last week Gordon had 177 total yards winning 62 to 6. 5 one play drives. Great defense. Fumbles, interceptions, onside kicks (no stats in the article!!!)?

A game versus a JV team should be treated the like an extra bye with a scrimmage to it. Is the opposing coach reporting the total yards of his Varsity and JV team as his "team" totals? Of course not. If you choose to play a JV, you shouldn't include your stats including season stats, single game stats, or individual career stats. Go visit Dave Campbell's and tell them you set a state record against a JV team...they will laugh in your face. The answer to that should tell you how to treat them for all things.
