Small high schools in Idaho will now have the option of playing six-man football.

The Idaho High School Activities Association board voted 14-0 to make six-man football a pilot program for three years, IHSAA executive director John Billetz said.

“I think because it's a pilot and people understand there's schools out there in areas in our state and their populations are decreasing, and they don't have the opportunity to co-op (with other other schools),” Billetz said. “They just felt it was an opportunity for some of our schools to participate.”

Another issue discussed at the board meeting in Boise was adopting shot clocks in high school basketball around the state.

Billetz said the idea of adding shot clocks to every gym in the state didn't get very good reviews and “there was not much support for it.”
