Semi-Final Picks

In the top half of the bracket it's Freddy and Lubbock Kingdom Prep. Freddy showed some early season weakness but is coming on strong in the playoffs (again). Lubbock, dare I say, Cinderella? Anybody know anything about them? I still maintain that defense wins. I honestly don't know anything about Lubbock but they must have something to still be playing in December.

The bottom half has a week 10 rematch of District 4 foes. Seguin appears to be healthy and playing confident. Castle making its' semi-final debut. Will it be the quickness and speed of Seguin or #5 for Castle?

Anyone? Anyone?

Granger picks Freddy by 17, Castle Hills by 10.

I hear Kingdom Prep has a pretty decent player that became eligible in the last week or so, but I haven't seen any film on them.

I like defense. With my very unscientific eye I would say Freddy and Lubbock have played the toughest schedules. Lubbock has played several UIL teams, beat some, lost to some. All four of the teams Freddy lost to are still playing! Seguin didn't play all that tough of a schedule and lost some games early that I'm sure they wish they could have back. Castle has played arguably the weakest schedule, HOWEVER, they did beat Freddy and Seguin in district play.

Anyone know if there is a Strength of Schedule list in this site?

Granger still has WF Notre Dame ranked #1 two games removed, is it history in the making? Why this would make even the BCS giggle......... state champions finished ranked #2 or maybe even undefeated state champions end season ranked #2.
Strength of schedule doesn't get you a championship ring, winning the last game of the year does.
I picked Castle hills in the preseason after seeing them at a scrimmage, they are more than one player, they are a good team.

football jersey, this is not the first time this has happened. I remember a about 4 years ago Dallas Tyler Street and Brenham finished ahead of the state champs. Brenham beat Tyler Street in the final four and were heavy favorites to beat I believe it was a team from Desoto, but I could be mistaken. Well, Desoto beat Brenham and won the state championship and still finished third. It's obvious that the "computer" favors some schools over others. It's all in fun though. It doesn't matter who finishes #1 in the rankings, it only matters who gets the ring. I agree with you though. I think Castle Hills has by far the best player on the field. My only concern with them is do they have enough coaching to beat Rabon and Shipman twice? These two teams, (Lifegate and Freddy) aren't where they are because of talent alone. It will take something special to beat them twice in one year.

Strength of schedule does matter. It prepares you to play your best at the end of the season. If you have been tested during the season you are more likely to have learned from it and improve, thus, playing your best when it matters. If your team plays the Weak Sisters Academy every week then you are only learning to be better than those weak sisters. Playing a challenging schedule stretches your team, and, with good coaching, makes your team better. The key will be how much Seguin and Freddy have improved since their loses to Castle. Castle has a very tough road ahead. It's going to take a lot to beat Seguin and Freddy twice. Are they ready? Just how much have they improved? I agree with tepryde, coaching is going to be key.

Was that Duncanville? I don't remember a Desoto.

It was Duncanville Christway. School closed at the end of that school year.

Pup and Brother Robert the First are both correct in that it will be good coaching and making the adjustments that will affect the games this weekend -- and perhaps next week.

However, Castle Hills was behind in both those games by more than two touchdowns (I think it was 20-8 Freddy and Lifegate was up 44-22 in their contest), which tells me that Coach Criner wasn't asleep and not learning lessons from Professors Rabon and Shipman when he was in their classes.

While I'm not a coach, there are times I've shaken my head wondering why coaches don't make the in-game adjustments that sometimes cost their teams the victory ... just sayin'

Although I am sure Coach Criner and staff learned a lot from Professors Rabon and Shipman, upon closer inspection I would say the Castle Hills offense and defense look like they learned a great deal from Professors Tim Reid from Throckmorton and Rush Cone from FEAST also.

Someone once told me if you stole from one source, it's plagiarism.

If you steal your ideas from several sources, it's original research.

Congrats to Coach Criner and the Eagles on the win. At least at this level, Dante is unstoppable. My count was that of the 7 times he touched the ball in the second half, he scored six times. In the third quarter, CH ran three plays. All Dante runs. All touchdowns.

And congratulations to my friends and brothers in Christ at Lifegate. Probably will be the last Lifegate game I have any involvement in, starting with the beginnings of the program in 2003. These young men and their coaches worked hard and long to defend a state title, fighting injuries and other problems along the way. Would have been nice to finish it with a state title game, but it was a valiant effort against a quality team.

@freeagent, Though I was too young to observe all of it, I know it's been an excellent time for you over there at SL. I always loved the Freddy/Lifegate games and the rivalry that surrounded our two schools. In my four years, I acquired a 1-5 record against yall, and that says something about the SL program and the part you have played in it. Congrats on a great run!

On the matter of Dante, I seem to recall similar phrases about McElroy over at WFND. "He's unstoppable!" "The best to ever play Six-Man!" "He will run right over_______(enter every opponent he ever faced)". And after personally facing him twice, he is an incredible athlete, better than me. However....I don't see the ring on his finger. And I look Freddy's and Lifegate's hands, and there's only four vacant fingers. I do concur that team > individual. IMO, the history books indicate that TREND (for it is just a trend, not a universal law). So for Dante, and the rest of the CH team he leads, bets of luck. But I know there's one more good TEAM to stand in the way.

Well put Dixon. I can tell the soldiers that serve under you in the future will be fortunate to have you leading them. I am glad you are serving our country. I know your sentiments about TEAM were one of the reasons all your teammates at Fredericksburg Heritage enjoyed playing with you and appreciated your leadership.

I too am pulling for a Heritage win tomorrow. In fact, I hear the SEC is starting to call themselves the District 4 of College Football.
