Scrimmages

First 6 man action I have ever seen, as I am new to the state. May was up on Lometa 46-6 when the lights suddenly went out late in the 2nd portion of a live quarter!!! The boys from May can play some ball!

Getting ready for our scrimmage tomorrow against Allen Academy, so we went to Coolidge last night to watch Mount Calm play Coolidge. Pretty good game. Coolidge has tons of kids - 20+. In the scrimmage portion, they were even three scores a piece. In the live quarter, Mt. Calm won 3-2. A few very sloppy plays, but the athleticism was there for both teams.

Coolidge is really good, and have improved since last year. Mt. Calm is not even the same team. Theyre playing huge against teams that should be better than them and will make a huge dent in DII. No clue how they're ranked below us or tons of teams, but by the end of the season, both these teams will climb the rankings.

Come out tomorrow morning to support the Buckholts Badgers!!!

This was my first 6-man.com experience and man I love it!! When they drove up, we thought Mt calm was going to get destroyed. We were bigger, faster and way more kids then they did. good job mt calm. you got our respect. they way better than we thought they would be.

We, at Mount Calm, appreciate anyone speaking about us in a positive manner. The boys are working very hard to create a program that is consistently in the conversation when speaking of quality, winning programs. We realize we're not there yet, but we're looking forward to journey. Thanks again for your comments, they mean more to us than you could possibly imagine.

Oglesby takes on Waco Vanguard tonight at 6 in Waco!

Great scrimmage tonight in Waco. Big plays made on both sides of the ball for all three teams involved. Oglesby has a great Coach and he gets every ounce of effort out of those kids. The same could be said for Centex and the big guys they have over there. Thanks for a fun way to start the season!

Coach Graves is amazing and as done great things with our program in very little time. Looking forward to another great season and hopefully a 3rd straight shot at the playoffs.

Look at Mt. Calm's record on Lone Star. They had a pretty good run in 6 man before the school was closed in 1959.

Closed? When and how did it reopen? Sounds like a story there! I don't think that I have ever heard of school consolidating and then unconsolidating!

Not positive of why they closed, but the High School re-opened its doors in 2010. Played a JV schedule for two years, then had their first varsity games in 2012. This will be our third year to have district games, with the possibility of playoffs. You're right, it's definitely a story worth being told. Glad to be a part of it.

In the late 1950's Mt. Calm was put on probation by the TEA for not meeting academic standards. In the spring of 1959, their accreditation was yanked when the high school did not make any improvement. The elementary and Jr high managed to save itself, but the high school was closed.

I'll see if I can find the article again. I might have posted it in either the current or the old history thread that was crashed a few years ago by the hackers.

Darrouzett just did it too recently.

OK, so they remained an ISD, but just had grades K through 8. Now that makes sense. They didn't consolidate, just sent their high school students to another school.

Darrouzett didn't consolidate the students were given a choice of attending Booker or Follett after the 6th grade back in the early 90's. The High school reopened in 2006 I believe but that may be off a year or two and they dropped football a couple years back due to financial concerns. They are still in operation but no longer field a High School team.

I had heard they were trying to start football back. But I don't know how true that is.

That's probably pretty accurate I know that they didn't really want to stop fielding a team it just wasn't feasible at that time but it wouldn't surprise me if they brought it back again.
