School Board member pressure

We were wondering how many coaches are pressured or fear not playing a school board member son where the dad wants him. We have heard all over from parents that some coach better play a certain kid at rb, qb, whatever. If the coach doesn't, they will vote to get rid of the coach first chance. Those parents are the ones usually at most practices telling the coach what he should be doing. How do you get rid of these people out of the way, and out of your business ? One coach had a parent that was troublesome handle the chains , on the opposite side of field.

I had that same situation at my last school, in football and at head girls basketball. Told them straight up I was doing it my way and if they didnt like it, they could replace me. I was renewed 7-0. I did choose to eventually leave.

I heard a wiser-but-not-as-old-as-I-am coach once answer that question this way ... If the choice is between playing the school board member's kid is winning or losing, always pick winning. A winning coach can always find another job.

I've also determined that sitting in about the seventh row of the stands must be the perfect place to officiate or coach a football game. The folks sitting in that row ALWAYS have ALL the answers.

I have always been very up front with School Board members, as well as all parents. I plan on being in their district for a long period of time. Their kids have a four year commitment. I refuse to jeopardize the program they asked me to build to suffice one family, when an entire community is affected. I've never been threatened once I explained I would rather leave and take over a different program, than to fall to pressures from a school board member, who is in severe violation of the ethics oath taken, as stated in TASB and thus susceptible to violations starting with "hostile work environment" and "administrative tampering". The school board is not allowed to tamper with your job. They're not even supposed to recommend anything, even if they don't have a kid playing. Remember, they're only school board when they're in session and they should remember that as well.
