Roby Thinking About 6-man in the Future

I will add Roby has been able to play 6-man I'm pretty sure for the last 15 years now (would have to check my enrollment records) but none the less for a while now and they have not done so. But if they made the move they would undoubtedly be welcomed with open arms!

I would strongly suggest to Roby that if they think they will make the move next year or next alignment they need to go ahead and make the switch in Junior High now and try to schedule a JV and maybe a non-district varsity game against a 6man team this season. I know many schools have open dates and it wouldnt be hard to find a game I bet

I was reading the article and thought that was interesting. Like you said, would welcome them with open arms to the 6-man community.

IMO, would be a very tough job. I think it would be tough going to a place that instead of playing sixman, they would rather remove all possibilities of making the post-season. That IS NOT doing what is best for the students. Will they choose to do this again next year? I honestly hope not...but that’s something a coach will have to think about before jumping in there.

I would invite them to consider what Morton did last season. Become an Independent and try to qualify to play in the Independent Six Man Bowl Series. As a result of their switching to an Independent, Morton ended the season ranked number 2 and played the number 1 ranked team, Tyler Heat. Morton won and became the first Independent Sixman Football State Champion.
This years Bowl Series will be played on November 10, 2018 in Gholson. 8 teams, 4 games, 1 State Champion.

Roby's Facebook page this morning:

"We would like to dispel any rumors regarding the upcoming 2018 football season. Roby High School and Roby Junior High School have a football schedule in place. Roby CISD has NOT cancelled the football season. Any information to the contrary is rumor and a rumor only. Please help us get this message out. If there are any new developments or new information to post, we will post through our official Facebook page or the district website. Sincerely, Roby CISD."

So dont know what's going on there now

Roby didn't cancel the season. They will be playing, however will not participate in district. They are expecting 14-16 boys to come out this year. From what I've heard, the plan is to play the JV of all district opponents so that the district teams aren't shorted a game if Roby lost kids to grades or injury.

However I totally agree that this would be a great opportunity to play outlaw for the next two years to prepare for the sixman route. I believe their enrollment is in the Mid 80s. This would be the smoothest transition to the game. 16 kids can still compete very well in sixman. This would give them an opportunity to jump into their district in 2020 with 2 years of experience under their belts.

I agree. I believe the thinking is that the other team may be able to pick up another team during district play but I'm not sure. That is simply what was in the article I saw.

I still think that going Independent and playing all 10 Varsity Games is the best thing that could happen for the Seniors. That way their last High School football season is not a bust. Too often adults make decisions that are easy and/or not well thought out that the kids have to live with for the rest of their lives.
May not be the case here but, just saying......

I think not only would it be great for Roby to play some 6man games instead of those JV game....but also if Baird or Hamlin (or heck any school in that district) has to fill their open date left by Roby they should consider playing a 6man school.

For those coaches that have a solid team, have an open date late in the season, are adventurous and thinks they are good salesmen...here is Roby's district that will have schools presumably looking for at least one game

Albany
Cross Plains
Haskell
Roscoe Collegiate
Baird
Hamlin
Roby

I was in the neighborhood yesterday so payed the admin at Roby a short visit.. Their decision to not play six man now was determined by the timing and loss of their head coach, and their fear of not being able to schedule a full six man schedule. They were getting pressure from local people who did not want to be in a situation where their halftime people couldn't perform their performances--the cheerleaders, band, drill, et cetera. And there was some concern about the affect of the six-man mercy rule on those halftime shows.

I tryed to tell them that every year there were six man programs who could not fill their football schedules because of opponent's fear of being unable to compete with teams like RS, Calvert, BC, Zephyr, and such. And I let the supt. know that it might be possible even this late to find those teams who needed games for their pre-district schedule.

Pretty interesting set of concerns.

But alas, no admin position and no volleyball. :)

If Roby has concerns about their half time performences, maybe they should contact May and Throckmorton. Both have bands and cheerleader routines. Both handle their half time performances a little differently. Throckmorton, in their home games, will wait until the game is over for their band to perform. This helps their football players to participate with the band. May, in recent years, has had several half time mercy ruled games. The band has always performed at the half time slot whether the game continues or is over. If the game is over, May's football players that are also in the band perform also. In both cases, most of the fans wait until the bands performances are over before exiting the stadium.
