Offense

My team just switched to six man this year. Six man is new in North Dakota, and I am just wondering about offensive terminology. What do you call all the formations? I know Jaybird and T, but I'm not really sure of what offenses exist and what they are called.

Good question and Im sure a lot of coaches will jump on to help you out. There are several names for the same offense you will find. Example Jaybird is the same as unbalanced I or unbalanced right I formation

Basic tight balanced line sets: T, I and Wing (right or left) all with QB under center.

That should be a good starting point

I have a spreadsheet showing the wing spread as ran by CW Williams in Texas in the 90s. Shoot me an email and I can send it to you.

Just food for thought from a fan/observer. Start your players running wind sprint's until the puke NOW. I've heard and seen the term "speed Kills" in sixman for years. But endurance is an equally important aspect when you do meet a worthy opponent and play four quarters. Yet it's still all about blocking and tackling. Teach lines of attack to DB's especially. Don't forget the defense. Wrapping up, holding on, until a Swarming defense gets there is often the difference in giving up TD's. Real, experienced coaches can provide Much better advice than I. After the season is over.

This is my first year involved in 6 man and I have to say I think more coaches need to put more of an emphasis on defense. I have seen some horrible tackling from games I have watched either via film or in person. It's almost like some coaches embrace the idea of well if we can get just one stop in a half we have a chance of winning, I just don't understand that mindset.

lol, I watch poor open field tackling on Saturdays and Sundays. I don't know that it means those teams are not putting an emphasis on defense and or working on fundamentals like tackling.

You don't have to agree with me bud, It's just my observation that the good sixman programs put a little more emphasis on tackling and defensive schemes.
