NFL Overtime Rules 👎

Am I the only one who thinks the NFL's overtime rules are đź’©? A tie? I don't like it, at least not in the NFL. I think they should adopt the NCAA overtime rules. If, at the end of this new overtime quarter, the game is still tied, let's take it to an alternating 2-point conversion until there's a winner.

I think one overtime period is fine, but if still tied after one ten-minute overtime have a kickoff competition between the field goal kickers until one kicks the longest field goal. If still tied after 4 kicks then pick a cheer leader from each team and let them try to kick a field goal. LOL From the NFL's viewpoint on overtime periods, I think it boils down to making every better a loser who bets on the game that ends with a tie. It's always about the money, right?

I think all OT should be sudden death but the team that starts on offense has to start from their own five yard line. If there's no score at the end of OT then go with positive offensive yardage in OT and be done with it. I saw some high school scores from this past week that went into 5 and 6 OTs!

Yeah, I'd be perfectly fine with that too, as long as there's a winner. I'm a Cowboys fan and I would've much rather seen the Cowboys lose than the game end in a tie. I'm fully aware most folks may not feel the same way, but that's just how I see it. There needs to be a winner and a loser, especially in last night's Cowboys game.

Don't high schools follow NCAA when it comes to overtime rules? OT1 is each team possesses the ball from their opponent's 25. OT2 is the same, except both teams must attempt a 2-point conversion. OT3+ is just alternating 2-point conversions until one team is successful when the other team isn't? If that's the case, 5-6 OTs could end up taking less time than another full quarter. You'd basically have two full drives by each team, then three single plays by each team to get into OT6.

Also, for our rules experts and assuming the above is correct, is there a change for six-man so that they must attempt the 1-point conversion (run/pass) instead of the 2-point conversion (kick)?

I was present at the May Throckmorton OT game in 08 maybe? Anyway it ended 102 100 after 5 OTs. It was almost midnight when it was over and both teams were dragging out their tracks. Both teams went for the 2 point conversion the whole time. The game was tied 66-66 after regulation if you want to figure out how many EP were missed.
