This is the Jones I was talking about.
You’re going to blame Jacoby Jones aren’t you?
By Jerome Solomon, Chronicle Sportswriter
Jacoby Jones will be the most chastised, cussed and criticized figure in Houston sports for the foreseeable future.
And, well, he deserves it.
The player who has so often made mental mistakes chose the absolute worst time to go mental on his team, as he turned in a horrid performance against the Ravens in the Texans’ 20-13 loss in the AFC divisional playoff today at M&T Bank Stadium.
His first-quarter fumble was so ridiculously stupid that ridiculously stupid isn’t the best way to describe it. It is all I have right now. I’ll have to take some time to come up with something more accurate before I write my column this evening.
To make matters worse, Jones never stepped up and did anything to makeup for his game-changing play.
The Texans fought to get back into the game, battling like the never-say-die team they have been all season to overcome the early hole. It would have been nice if Jones had contributed to the comeback effort.
Just make ONE LOUSY play. He never did.
Now, I’m not saying Jones is the reason the Texans lost, but had he missed the team flight and been suspended for the game, the Texans would be playing in Foxboro next Sunday for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
Oh, he is going to be roasted this week and next week and the week after that and forever more.
It is going to be ugly and it is going to be unfair (I assume), but it is what it is. He brought it on himself with a bad day on a big day.
