Pete's meds are obviously much better than mine.
See...I gave Pete a compliment. :)
Do you feel edified?

Careful Doggy, you're starting to get references to other threads in your posts. That's the second time today. You may need to slow down on them pills.

Rodeodad, I had an occasion to be in/at Flower Grove in the early to mid 60's. I remember miles upon miles of nothing but bedded cotton land. I remember seeing 50-60 horse tractors with two row equipment and thinking how in the world did these guys get all of this land plowed! What I don't remember seeing was flowers or a grove of anything. How did Flower Grove get its name?

FLOWER GROVE, TEXAS. Flower Grove, on Farm Road 2002 in the northeastern corner of Martin County, was named for an early settler, Hardy Flowers. A rural school district was established there in 1920 and an independent school district in 1928. During the 1930s and 1940s five neighboring schools were consolidated with Flower Grove. The town also had the Flower Grove Missionary Baptist Church, the Bethel Assembly of God Church, and the Farmer's Co-op Gin. The community still existed in the early 1980s.

How did you end up there? Was your dad the coach/principal?

Bluebird, back in the day (60 - 62) Flower Grove has some good teams. Won Regional two years in a row. I think their record was 11-1 one year and 10-1 the other. Back then Regional was as far as 6-man went.
Did you attend FG then?
Someone posted about "purple" now that would have to be the Dawson Dragons since Flower Grove was Red and Black.
For those that might not know, Flower Grove consolidted with Klondike back in the 70's. For some this was not a "marriage made in heven" for sure.

He did but was not there when they won the two regional titles. FG had gone back to 8-man when Adams was the coach. I think he was only there maybe two years.

The formation of a high school at Grady was the final nail in FG's coffin. They used to get most of the kids from the old elementary/jr. high school.

Oldgoat, we was talking about where I'm from when the purple got mentioned. Flowergrove was Klondike's elementary school campus for years. It's just an old abandoned building now.

BTW, I think HPD and Oldgoat get points for a thread hijacking here. They took a meaningless thread and took it to an informational and useful point. Well played guys. Well played. :)

There were a number of schools (1st thru 8th grade only) that disapeared at that time. Know all about Grady. Kids there had an option to go to FG are Stanton. Your of right about the nail.

I have a sister that taught one year of high school English on some kind of emergency certificate at Flower Grove. She had went to Tarleton for two summers and one full school year and had about 60 hours total. She had been out of high school for one year. If the the administrators had not been x-neighbors of ours the situation would never have come up.

Maybe I had eyes only for the school, gym and teacherages, but I don't remember anything about churches, stores our anything else.

My families ranch is right across thre road from the FG school, the store and church are about 5 miles west on FM 2002 at the gin. Still rmember getting getting a coke out of the coke box and dumping a a little round cpaper container of Redskin peanuts in my coke, if you wre lucky you would get a Nickle in your peanuts! My uncle is good friends with Sam Adams a nd you are right he is a great man. Been gone to some Jr. Rodeo finals and havent been able to chime in, but I am BACK!!!!

Rodeo, isn't the store and gin East of the old school building? The Gin is still there not sure about the store.
Didn't mean to hijack this, we can go back to looking for a new coach. Probably need one for Flower Grove. Looks like they are going to have to do a lot of work on the field. Maybe the new Turf would be the way to go. Hope DogFace does not get the position, think we need new blood, probably 1st year coach.

Meaningless? I hope the girls don't hear that you said that. Since when are we supposed to be informational and useful?
Come on Chivo Viejo, mindless drivel. That's the ticket...........................

The current Flower Grove Coop gin is east of the old Flower Grove School. The only other thing there is a church and parsonage. There's also the old Three League Gin (abandoned) and community west and a little north of the school.

Keep the hijack going OldGoat. Smokey should be proud to have started an educational thread. It's about time he did something for the good of the world. ;-)

Hey, I do a lot for the good of the world........ I keep Doc occupied when no one else wants to..... I distract Doggie by yelling "Squirrel"..........

Just keeping Doc out of everyone's hair is a Herculean effort. Does his wife appreciate your efforts?

Doggie? Well.............
