New 6A and six man numbers

To me Keeper of horns made it clear that he meant " chooses ". Not being forced into it as described in the baseball scenario.................

And some six man schools "CHOOSE" to play baseball. Shouldn't put all their extra-curriculars into a higher classification which is what was indicated.

That's exactly right Smokey. There is no "choice" in baseball on whether to play up or not. There is no 1A baseball. (well, there won't be in the new system.) So to fix that problem, make a 1A baseball. Don't make em play up to 2A just because they wanna play. It is a disadvantage for the smaller schools.

And to answer your question, in my opinion....... NO, they should not have the option to do that. I feel that 1A should be for six man schools, if you want to play 1A you either play six man or don't play football, if you want to move up to class 2A and play 11-man, that is your option, but it should go for all sports, both genders. Throckmorton had a long standing 11-man tradition, but they seem to be doing pretty good in six man. Traditionally, there was only 1 division in six man, now there are 2. Traditionally, the cutoff for six man was 79, now it is 99 and soon to be 104. Traditionally, six man was for schools that couldn't field an 11-man team, now there are teams with JV and even a couple of Freshman teams out there. Traditionally, six man was a game of mystery, a team would go into most games knowing the record of the team they were playing and nothing else, now there are many resources available to ensure that you know the right defense for the team you are playing.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what the fine men have done so far. It's a good starting point. But it's a long row to hoe.

Houston Madison plays 5A although they have the numbers to play 4A. There are 12 4A schools in the town of Houston. That's not counting the surrounding suburbs. This is one example of many that I don't see how travel would be financially or logistically problematic.
