Congrats to Throck & RS on winning state again, RS on the history. Gordon & Strawn on making the semi's, Abbott on the big dance and Follett again. Coaches Mallory and Ethrige on their 1st playoff wins, BE on meetin' his old friends in Abilene. Newcomers Lingleville & Savoy on great 1st seasons. Santa Anna on what I read was your best ever.
Favorite memories include hangin round under the tree in Hico with Dr Don & CP. Maybe the best moment though was watching coach Mallory take his team out in the woods literally for a pre-game talk before the Stephenville Faith game in Bluff Dale (JR hi field with NO facillities other than light's). Up a little hill into the cedars. You could see about half the team from a chair in the back of a pickup. The anthem came on and they all turned around and put a hand over their hearts. And Strawn's quarterfinal win was a big night.

I enjoyed every play of every game, time with old friends, and meeting new friends.
I'd like to say thank you to all the players for their efforts throughout the season.

...Warm fellowship, forgiveness, seeing those I love--Sally Jean and grandson Rhett, Tyler Earl, Mom, baby-sister Marce, Karen Frazier, Pam Svoboda, Bill Haddock, Don H., Donnie Joe and Jo Jo, Patrick and Randy Couch, Andrew Fowler, Cason Fikes (who never was a wussy), Haustin Burkhart, Goob, Don Fowler, Cubby Pearce, Mr. and Mrs. Mask, Jerry and Shawn and the rest of the Coyote pack.
God bless them every one!!!

See ya'll next season!? (:

So Goob was there. Been wonderin if he was ok little as he posted last year. Kept looking for a boat oar. But I wuz sittin on the other side.

One thing from last year I read I can't figure out. Must be a good reason but somebody explain it to me. According to the local paper and my memory... Stephenville Faith was up 20 or 30 points in their state game with 30 or 3 seconds left. They score again. Ain't that when ya take a knee? It was a SR star player who hadn't scored in that game but 2 rings are not enough?

Here's my understanding of the situation. The kid who scored that last touchdown is a two time all state starting running back. He had hurt his knee the week before and had tried to go in the state game. The knee wouldn't cooperate, and the kid stayed on the sideline til late in the game. When they put him in, Faith fed him the ball on simple dive plays. Bastrop stopped him two or three times until the kid finally limped in for the td. I suppose the Stephenville Faith coach wanted to reward the kid in his last game. However, as you say, they probably should have just taken the knee. What Stephenville Faith did on that last drive was in questionable taste, and I'm not going to try to defend it. But before anyone starts comparing pots and kettles, you should know the rest of the story. On the pat, Bastrop lines a kid up on the outside, where he essentially has no chance to affect the play. On the snap, the Bastrop kid fires in on a beeline and spears the Faith holder in the back. The flags fly, the Bastrop kid is ejected, and of course the Stephenville sideline erupts in righteous indignation. I pray to heaven above that the Bastrop kid came up with the idea on his own, and wasn't told to take the cheap shot by his coach. What Faith did might have been thoughtless, but it was perfectly within the rules of the game. The Bastrop reaction to it was simply a criminal act of assault.

Thanks. I guess that does explain it even if neither action was appropriate. Might have been one of those life lessons learned on the field. Sometimes life ain't fair and nothing you can do will make it right. Kind of like back talking a policeman who's also a smart a__.

A few years back at one the UIL state games the winning team (by about 30 points) took a knee on the last play. The state mvp to be was lined up to the qb's back left. Same as above. Defensive player lines up wide, makes a beeline & drills the mvp. Caught him off guard. Didn't affect the play at all. No penalty. Game over. No retaliation just celebration.

penalty i agree criminal assault are you kidding me,,,, and as far as the kid running dives or them passing the ball it was the lack of coach leadership.
